わたし ねこ です。 すごい。 (Trying to learn some Japanese for fun via Duolingo! Whooh.)
you forgot subject particle "は" after saying "watashi". Welcome to nihongo.
Thanks! So what did I approximately say now, then? "I cat" or something?
Yeah, basically. You didn't specify how "I" and "cat" relate to each other (my cat? I'm a cat? I like cats??)
I see. Got it. わたしの ねこ would then be "my cat", yeah? The の part suggesting that it is my X. Correct? And, as you said "わ" after watashi would be "I am".
The subject particle doesn't exactly translate into "am" or "is", it's more like it specifies that everything after the particle is talking about the thing before the particle (I'm not that experienced in Japanese either and am still learning, so correct me if I'm wrong). Japanese grammar is a bit different from English so it's difficult to translate it exactly. I'd suggest studying on your own about sentence structure, since Duolingo isn't that extensive about grammar things. sorry for the wall of text

I was learning japanese years ago but all I remember now are Hiragana/Katakana/some Kanji. Are there good online resources for learning? All of the ones that I've found are kind of terrible.

http://www.guidetojapanese.org/learn/grammar And personally I haven't used it, but apparently the duolingo Japanese course is pretty alright
Kind of sad to see this thread is dead. I'm trying to mail some Japanese dude but I have no clue what this last textbox is for and Google does a piss-poor job. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1641/ec3cb1c4-c3ec-4316-bd51-9a1369b3035c/image.png
I think it's a bot verification question. It is asking you to type out 接吻 (kissing) in katakana. The answer should be セップン
Yamaha nikon casio aiwa. Minolta hitachi, seiko toshiba!!!
Been picking up Japanese again recently, and been studying it 20 - 30 minutes a day for a bit over a month now. 私はタコスを食べました。おいしでした。 今日はゆきでした。 Please tell me if this is grammatically wrong! I was trying to say: "I ate tacos. It was great. It snowed today."
