Ye, I'm into pastries now. Normal foo I can cook very well, but damn, are pastries hard to get right.
Probably going to be cooking a variety of things for Thanksgiving, but something that I am preparing for right now is making miniature apple butter pies, which everyone will be able to add their own cream cheese flavor too. I'll make sure to post a picture when it is ready.
I want to but I need a more vertical avatar
i cook ramen good
I've been learning how to cook some Japanese food these past few months, although, I would have liked to cook a lot more dishes. Learned to make sushi and hand rolls [Imgur] [Imgur] Suki yaki (すき焼き); basically a pot of vegetables, meat, rice noodles and some other items that you bring to a boil. This dish is a little sweet (but still salty), for you add sweet sauce to the water before you boil, and while you boil it; it just depends on your preference. Depending on the family, the way you prepare and eat it is different. Some people like to eat along with rice, some like to crack a raw egg in a bowl and poor the hot soup, meat and vegetables on top of it and eat it. We ate it with rice and an egg. This is what it looks before you cook it. [Imgur] And after [Imgur] Also learned how to make Shio-nabe (塩鍋), which is essentially the same thing as sukiyaki, but just a little bit more savory. You don't add anything sweet in this. You serve the the soup and cooked items in a bowl, then you add sesame oil or ponsu sauce to your liking. You also can add vinegar or salt to it if you'd like. We didn't eat rice with it. Preperation [Imgur] End result [Imgur] Sorry, the shio-nabe presentation is not as appealing as the sukiyaki.

The closest I've come to preparing warm/hot food is pouring boiling water into a plastic pot of noodles.
My parents keep encouraging me to cook but ain't nobody got time for that nowadays unless its your job or hobby or smth
they should stop cooking for you
Hey guys heres one of my fav recipes for you.
I'd probably learn to cook if I could afford it and if I had the time.
Cooking is usually cheaper than eating out, you can try simple things like baking chicken or pork. Serving with something easy to make like vegetables and rice can be surprisingly tasty and healthy.
I save so much money by getting ingredients and preparing my own food. If you pressed for time, it can be hard. However, I did manage to cook at least two meals a day while working 30 hour weeks, as I was doing school full time (a total of 4 classes), all the while participating in two music ensembles at my university along with two other music groups outside of my university. I just always cherished preparing my own, it's so rewarding. Plus I'm a broke ass student and can't afford to eat out.
If you're a full time student and you're not getting loads of money from your parents you have to cook or you'll die.
I need to get one of those double boiler pots, I love making soup and rice porridge but good lord it's easy to burn those.
get your ass in here
Glorious apple butter pie. Also my dad got me to make a sweet yam pie with marshmallows on the bottom All the marshmallows ended up becoming volcanoes. Was weird.
I actually find myself spending a lot of money on frozen dishes / ready made food so you're probably right. I assume that in order to get good food and good ingredients, I'd have to pay a lot. Just for reference, I tried cooking bacon today and I overcooked it .
Can anyone hook me up with a simple recipe? I need some motivation to cook something this weekend since i gotta learn it somehow, will post the horrific results later then.
I haven't considered making tonkatsu yet. Although it is tasty, I really don't eat that much here in Japan (even though I can get it anywhere at anytime). I'd like to learn to make some fried foods here, since they're (usually) pretty easy to make. And you usually can't go wrong cooking fried food, since it almsot always tastes good. I'd really like to learn how to make fried octopus or Japanese friend chicken (鶏唐揚げ tori kara-age).
You could always do something simple like beef jerky. That or learn to make some bread.
I was cutting up a red pepper for a meal, and it had a tiny red pepper inside! Never seen these before, and I didn't even know that these are a thing.
