As I feel all I'm doing is spamming the "We need a model repository for SFM!" thread I've split this off to show how progress is going and to get some feedback on the project.
The SFM Community Resource Depo is a site that is being created by myself and Miz because of the wide demand of a universal place for users to share their creations and assets with other users to use in Source Filmmaker. The site design is based off the official SFM site mainly as we wanted to keep it in a uniformed theme.
The site will feature:
Submission mirror uploading (multiple hosts if needed, for now files will be hosted on a file server which is separate to the server which handles the site)
Specific SFM related categories
Adult content filter (because we all know someone is gonna upload dicks or something)
Creative Commons licenses by default (and WTFPL)
Submission report system

To-do:
Submission page
Upload handler finishing
Report system
Lastly before you ask, no we haven't picked out moderators for the site and likely wont until its done.
Excellent work! I'm really looking forward to the final version; I've been following the thread since the beginning. Thank you for your hard work on this.
Thank you for doing this. Great going explaining the licenses, should clear up things for people not too or at all acquainted with them (like me).
Alright! This is exactly what we need!

Fund it. This'd be great.
Can you change it to "Depot"? The way you're spelling it is making me itch. :v:

But... I like the sound of depo more.
[sp]Name is likely to change by the time its finished, resource depo isn't final and nor is the domain, saying that it has no domain so toot.[/sp]

But "Depot" is pronounced "Depo". Your argument makes no sense.
Depo isn't even a word! :v:

It's the internet. Who gives a shit. That was a rhetorical question, you don't have to reply with a cocky: "Me."
Well the site looks good so far. Keep doing what your doing. :)
You know what would be cool? If models would appear similar to TF2 Wiki's Models on the pages. I'm not sure if it's possible on what you're hosting it on, similar to this. I think it would be a nice thing to have.

Submission page wip, might limit the other images to 6 so it doesn't overflow under the main preview even though the css supports it.
This needs to go somewhere

What would require a shitload of images, the way the wiki does it is by having the python script take snapshot of the model, rotate it a bit snapshot, rotate a bit more snapshot.
Its not really ideal, I mean for the wiki sure it works.
A better way would be to have a canvas setup which uses webgl like this, but its temperamental as hell and requires the model to be in obj format as I haven't seen anything that allows webgl to read mdls.
[editline].[/editline]
Nevermind found an older project which can read mdls however it can't read vtfs so they need to be converted into pngs.
I don't really see this as practical so likely wont happen.
Dont forget to add an animations catagory, and add a sub catagory section.
Like for Models add TF2, L4D2, exc, exc, Others.
Animations add Dance, Pose, Sitting / Walking, exc.

I was just going to have one category for models and such then have the users set fitting keywords. Saves having masses of categories.
If you like sub categories more we can see about adding then.

You could just get someone to write a VTF plugin. That's why Nem made this!

Not really resource friendly nor ideal.
I think the screenshot should be the responsibility of the uploader. It can be a render from the 3d modelling software, or a screenshot from right out of SFM. We just need a guideline in placfor the size of the thumbnail. It should also be a required part of submitting a model, so there isn't a bunch of uploaded models with no thumbnails. Of course this would only apply to models and maps since a thumbnail for a script would be impractical.
Should also be a category or tag for animations- like if someone makes a walk cycle for the Soldier, they can upload it as a DMX, that kind of thing.
Image should be required or the user can't upload.

Keywords/tags.

Already enforced.
Some more progress on upload page.

Wasn't thinking of adding forums...
Wasn't thinking of adding forums...
You can create the widest community on SFM, just add forums and you're done bro.
Where we go if we need to make requests then ??
We don't need forums- that's a layer of headaches and administration this doesn't need.
