Yo bro!
Recently, i was visiting this forum to learn more about SFM and animation stuff. But, now i want to know more about the community. I want to know more about you, so i elaborated a few questions
that might be usefull for everyone. You know, its nothing about your personal life. Its about your progress using SFM, and some curious things.
Let's go:
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, i'm new here and i will answer these questions first. This way you all will know more about my relationship with the program. (Sorry for my bad english)
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
- I began using SFM for 4 days. Its nothing, i know, comparing with the time you guys had with SFM. I'm not new, actually, with the animations stuffs, but im constantly forgeting about the "how to do" things with SFM.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
- 4 days.
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
- The old Pivot, After Effects and some 'childish' ones. I don't know if After Effects can be considerated an animation program. The only thing, i guess, I sayed this is because After Effects have the Keyframing animation and a lot of stuff to edit videos. I'm not a professional at after effects, but i already had some experience with that.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
- L4D2 and Dota 2 for sure. I'm trying to get pro with SFM to do some funny and serious stuff animations using the Dota and L4d2 models. I'm constantly watching some SFM at youtube about these 2 awesome games, and i can say, these videos inspires me a lot. I really want to get serious with SFM.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
- Yes, even knowing i did not understood some things. I think i'm not the only one. Sometimes i have to re-watch all the tutorial again and again, so this way i won't get frustrated. I mean, its a complex stuff. Editing and animating and knowing about 'this' and 'that' to do 'that thing' its hard, for real. I just need to be patience.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
- Yes. I watched the 'particles system' tutorial, and i got really confused. 'You need to go here and do this to be able to do that and now go here and put together this with that and here you put
something like 0 to 0.15 so will creat this" WTF.... For real? =/
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
- Even knowing that SFM is complex sometimes, my rate is 7/10. 7 Because its a professional tool FOR FREE. Valve released that for us, the community, for free. Its amazing stuff, but its not that perfect. Considering that the program is at the beta stage, i got some problems with some models and keyframing animation with the camera and stuff. And, of course, the limitation you got there. I know you can only use the source engine, but its so limited, i guess. Just for a few games, i don't know.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
- I think i will keep using for some months. I really don't know. Sometimes this is very professional for me to use, and probably i will give up with these things.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
- No. I tried to do models for games, but its really hard.
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
- I want to say that this site and people here are really good. Never spoked with them but, seems nice, A lot of people here got balls to use this SFM stuff and being professional with that. I really hope that we get along and share ours experience and stuff for free. For the good of the community, you know. Keep helping, teaching and doing amazing things for everyone. You will be respect.
Thats it. Bye =D
Might as well
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
If you count SFM 2007 I used that from 2011 until SFM 2012 was released. If you only count 2012 I used that since day 1.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
Since 2011 if you count legacy SFM, since release if you don't.
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
I've used Flash, Pivot, Toonboom, Maya, and 3DSmax before.
only ones I've really used in depth though were Maya, Max, and pivot. I only dicked around with the others for a bit.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
Anything but TF2. Too much TF2, not enough anything else.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Nope. I watched the first one and said screw it I've used SFM before this can't be THAT different.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
I usually find a way
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
8/10
I love SFM because of the mountains of premade content, the amazing render times, the ease of making a short.
It has some flaws though (mostly lack of advanced features such as SSS, dynamic reflections, etc)
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
Depends if Source 2 comes out before I get to the point where I feel SFM is too out of date to do anything.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
Nope
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
Don't expect to make something amazing at first, you'll improve over time.

i'll be on and off of it for the next year or so i bet
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
skits and music, cream of the crop
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
getting phonemes onto a custom model is annoying as hell
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
Around a few days after it was made public.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
I work with it almost everyday but not very much, so maybe half an year or less.
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
Never, I plan to though.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
TF2, Dota 2 and sometimes Portal 2.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Yeah, some are useful but some I was confused so I counted on the community for help.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
A few times, but I always try a second time before giving up.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
9/10
I like this program, and being the student I am it is the only program I have really dedicated myself to learn so far.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
Untill SFM2 or something better comes out I guess, if ever.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
Nah.
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
Keep doing what you do, and don´t quit just because your first movies/posters might suck.
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
About a year ago, not really frequently.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
Infrequently, but I'm starting to use it more now.
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
Yes, but only very basic stuff and Garry's Mod.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
TF2 seem the highest quality ones. DotA 2 videos look really clunky.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Absolutely, they were fantastic in teaching me the software.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
Nope. I just try and find a different way to do it or edge the corners. That's how I work.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
9/10, it's very good and powerful, though sometimes i think things are needlessly complex.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
A long, long time.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
I have a few ideas floating around, mainly movies. Nothing big now.
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
Always remember, some of the most basic human things like walking and running are some of the hardest to animate without motion capture. Try and find ways around these if you're not confident with your animation.
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
October 2012 i believe
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
Since october 2012? Did you seriously just ask the same question twice?
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
Bryce4. An old & very nooby modeling/animating program.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
...Do you mean what models you like to use? For now, i'm an Others guy.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Uhh i think so.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
No...
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
10/10 - Simply because of the amazing community support and also when combined with Garry's Mod content you have so much at your disposal to work with. I believe SFM is very unique in these regards, but then again i'm not really familiar with other current animation programs so who knows.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
Until something better becomes available to me? I have no idea what the future holds, i'm not jesus.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
Of course. Almost done with my first short film.
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
Not really. Obviously a bunch of really incredible folks. Though i do wish more non-TF2 films were being made. But it's understandable why TF2 used so much (HWM models, default content, etc.)
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?

No
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
No
Sorry if my answers are long. I've been doing a lot of writing so I'm very used to having a lot of things to say lol.
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
- Back on March 2013. It became one of my most used application on my com ever since I first used it.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
- About 6 months now and I use it almost everyday.
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
- I used Autodesk Maya, 3DSMax, Poser and Adobe Flash if you count in 2D animations. Used both for several years now and it helped kick-start my use of SFM.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
- TF2 because of the ease of access for the models and the flexibility of the storyline and character personalities. I also would've done a lot of L4D and L4D2 if it wasn't for the crash-prone models.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
- Yes indeed. Took away two days of my life. My prior experience with animations and Python/ActionScript coding helped me understand it.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
- Yes, all the time but I usually never give up. I will keep trying to find a solution or a workaround. Being stubborn, or determined, helps sometimes.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
- 9/10. It is very powerful, flexible and can work with other 3D software like Maya. The more recent release/reveal of some of the projects made its capabilities clear (like End of the Line). It is capable of doing works which can be comparable with professionally made ones and that's saying much since SFM is free. Not to mention its convenient functions, which already comes in large numbers. The downside is its tendency to crash, its sometimes buggy functions and its finickiness when it comes to file formats. It also lacks features that other animation software may or may not have.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
- I'm confident that I will keep using SFM for several years. But I will at least continue to use it for the months to come to finish my TF2 series.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
- There's my TF2 series which is currently 4 out of about 10 chapters in. I post updates of it in my Facepunch thread, "FYI I am a Robot Movie Series". The movie series is somewhat rushed due to time constraints so priority is placed on storytelling and character development rather than animation and particle qualities.
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
- I gotta say that the Facepunch community has some of the biggest geniuses I've ever met when it comes to models, animations and videos. The community is also pretty friendly, with everyone helping out one another with problems and requests. Though I may not be active around here, I do stick around to watch other vids and posters. I hope to be able to stick around for the years to come. I've yet to receive any serious review/critic of my SFM movie series so I welcome anyone to say something bad about my first attempt on a 3D animation series lol. I really need the criticism.

Jump into a project with a plan, not a goal.
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
December of 2009.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
Probably around 750 hours.
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
Yes. Mostly Maya, some experience with Motion Builder, 3DS Max, Flash.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
TF2 and L4D2
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
When SFM went public, I watched the tutorials to get a feel for the new features. When it was still in its unofficial beta stage, we made our own tutorials.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
Not really. My first step in any major SFM production of mine is to make sure that my most complicated scene is feasible.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
9/10. It's not perfect by any means, but I truly appreciate the effort that Valve and the SFM team put into this piece of software, and then to just release it to the public for personal use was just amazing.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
Until I find a job, probably.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
No project currently underway, but I'm always throwing ideas around.
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
You're a beautiful group of people.
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
When it was released in the open beta last year.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
Since it was released in the open beta
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
None at all, this was my first experience in animation.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
TF2 for the most part. I also do Portal stuff when I can.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Yes, except for the last animation tutorial
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
I got really annoyed with myself since I can't animate at all, I stick with posters and I am glad for my skill in those.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
9/10. The program is wonderful. My only problems are because of the minor glitches (but it's a beta so whatever._
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
Until people stop giving me hats for posters. :)
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
None.
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
I love this community and always come here for help.
Oh sure why not.
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
Uhhh, a few weeks after the first public release. I was pretty against using it at first because of how different it was from posing in Gmod, but I quickly took to how superior it is in many ways (most notably the lighting) and forced my way through learning it.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
Well, my Steam page says 500+ hours, but many hours of that are letting it sit while it renders for 7+ hours and using the SFM SDK for testing recompiled models. And then there are many more unrecorded hours, because I put SFM to launch disconnected from Steam, to avoid people asking me what I was doing all day in the SFM and then wanting to see my animations when I tell them "rendering".
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
Nah, SFM was the first animating program I've ever used, short of a single stint using Henry's Animation Tool in Garry's Mod, which I don't think really counts.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
Others. Definitely others.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Nah. I only watched the "Getting Started" really. The rest I either figured out myself, or nagged my friends who use SFM incessantly about.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
Have I gotten pissed at SFM and rage-quit a session? Many times. SFM randomly crashing, the camera controls fucking up, the framerate dropping to fractional values, the graph editor irrecoverably fucking up my curves, DMX scenes corrupting. As to "things I couldn't do", from a technical standpoint: particles not colliding with animsets has really frustrated me; from a personal standpoint, my inability to make decent walk-cycles without putting hours into them has annoyed me immensely.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
6/10.
It is a powerful animation engine and it is entirely free to use (provided that you have access to content), but it has more bugs than an anthill has ants. Incredibly unstable, notably unpolished, and when it misbehaves it throws a tantrum that can be directly compared to Armageddon. On the rare occasion that SFM behaves well, though, it is a pleasure to work with. I just can't forgive all of its issues, though.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
Until something better comes out, Valve break it to the point of unusability, my interest in animating wanes, or my life changes in such a way that it just isn't feasible that I use the SFM.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
I have a great many projects, none of which would be appreciated here and so won't be posted here. So strictly speaking, no.
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
This community needs to grow and thrive. There are only a handful of active members here, and it saddens me a bit. So try and get your friends into using the SFM! Get your friends' friends! Get your friends' friends' moms! Get your friends' friends' moms' dogs! The more people we can get into using the SFM, the better both the SFM community in general and the FP SFM community in particular will be. More people means more minds means more ideas means more innovation. We have already unlocked great things here, like all of the coloring and puppeting and physics scripts, and the SFM comic maker. And that's with only a handful of people working to crack it open. Imagine if we had five times that number of people working to unleash these things for the world! It would be awesome!
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
A day or two after public release. I tried getting into the closed beta, and I got the go ahead from Valve, but I was away from my computer at the time so I didn't get a chance until the official release.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
Logged my 900th hour last night!

3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
Not that I know of...

4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
Whatever ideas I can come up with, I do. Whether it's using models from L4D2, TF2, whatever. However, TF2 models are so easy to work with. I frequently use them.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Yeah.

6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
Nope!
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
I can't rate it like that because I have nothing to compare it to.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
As long as I love to make 3d movies and have ideas! And have time to execute them, of course. I have meatspace movies to worry about... but even then, I may still use SFM for some kind of previs. Who knows! :)
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
Oh, yeah. I got a rather big project coming up. I've told Grigory Revzin, but so far he's the only other person on the planet who knows what's in it. (far as I know!)
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
Never give up!
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
I started during the somewhat early days of the beta, i started out using the motion editor because i thought the graph editor was too intimidating at the time, this is the first video i made while using the motion editor Link
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
So far, a total of 293 hours, i don't plan on stopping any time soon either
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
Only a few times in Milkshape 3D, but sometimes it feels too difficult to do something i want to do or too broken to feel like i'm actually animating
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
Mostly TF2 because of how expressive the characters are and how much nicer they look in certain lighting and with AO, but i do plan on using characters from other games at some point
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Yes, i haven't really learned anything from them, i just taught myself everything i know about the SFM :v:
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
Yes, i stopped working on a recreation of the opening for Walker Texas Ranger, only because i couldn't figure out how to make one character do the roundhouse kick and the other one react to it, though i do plan on going back to it at some point, especially since i know more now than i did then
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
If i had to give a rating, i'd say 7.5/10, it's a pretty great program with many possibilities, but there's certain cons to it that brings it down, to get other games in it, you need to extract the game's individual files from their VPKs and put them in the SFM's directory, it should be able to mount the compatible content via the _dir.vpk files that exist in your Steam folder, as it works currently, it can weigh real heavily on your hard drive, especially if you want to use games like CS:GO, Portal 2, etc, then there's the random bugs people encounter with random crashes, lock ups, corruptions, and the tf_movies character models have oddities with the Ubercharged textures
I realize it's still a beta, but those are what i'm most nitpicky about at this point
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
Probably till the day i die
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
I have several projects that are and have been in the works for a while now, mostly because i'm busy with other things, or too lazy to work on one or the other, but i do hope i can get them done at some point
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
Hello World!
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
July 10th 2012 is when I got the beta.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
200+ hours
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
I use Maya but I haven't really animated in it that much and I use Anime Studio for other animations.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
Portal and Portal 2 stuff, the cores in Portal 2 are so expressive.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
No, I watched a few but learned the majority of how to use the program from other users and tips.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
A lot of times I get angry because I'm not very good at animating TF2 figures and other humanoids smoothly and realistically.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
7/10, a lot of features for a free program but it's hard for beginners and very unstable with model editors/sound pickers/ etc. when you have a lot of content mounted.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
Until I get bored and move on to something else.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
I'm currently working on two videos, both TF2 related.
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
Why the hell did this crappy video I made get so many views?
I like how this looks.

3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
no
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
my screen is too small so its hard to actually animate
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
no too hard
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
yeah. stop crashing sfm.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
horrible 0/10 i cant put hats on people

fuck the sfm community they think default animations make them pro
Well let's do it
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
Since the 2007 beta leak, but it was too shitty to actually count so let's say on day D+5 when I got the beta pass.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
Around 1000 hours, I usually don't login to Steam when I do animation to stay focused so there's a lot of unrecorded time.
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
Nope, it's SFM, actually, that brought me to the wonderful non-interoperable world of 3DS Max, Blender and Maya.
But I used Flash to create cartoons back in the day when I was 11-13. I'm not that good at drawing (and you need to be good at drawing if you do 2D animation) so that didn't do anything good but that's where I learned what a keyframe is :)
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
I surely love TF2 characters, they have extremely smart design that makes them have that much-needed balance of having a detailed backstory yet allowing any imaginable situation with them.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Yes I did
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
I get angry over animation every second I animate and go read The Animator's Survival Kit every time I'm about to ragequit, cause Willams just makes doing animation look very easy.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
Well, I'd say 8/10. It's a beautiful and fast renderer (with some limitations in selected areas though) and a decent animation editor compared to other stuff. It has Python and therefore is very, Blender-like, extensible in theory, though documentation really lacks. It's well designed for storytelling. You don't bump into limitations every two seconds as with GMod or in unnecessary complications as with 'traditional' 3D pipelines
And the ability to view and manage all your shots, storyboards, lit scenes, finished animation, alternative cameras, and to hop from storyboarding to animating, camerawork or lighting and back at any time without even the need to open another program is freaking amazing IMO
What sucks are the content creation difficulties but that's improved every now and then.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
I really have no idea.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
Yep, I'm coding a DMXedit emulator for Blender that will streamline HWM characters creation for SFM. Hopefully.
Also, there's a short in the works. I
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
Hm, that's Pixar's motto, but story is king. There's a high probability you don't really need that water effect or lens flare or cloth that SFM can't simulate to make a good storytelling point. And always storyboard before doing anything else with your movie.

7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (9/10)
SFM is a great program, but I'm currently using older version of SFM due to bugs.

Dunno.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
I do have a few, but university hogs most of my time so I only make posters.
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
I knew nothing about photography / cinematography before I use SFM and it is like a free lesson. So if you want it, take it, use it. It's free.
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
I was one of the lucky few that lucked into the beta at the beginning.

2 - How long you've been using SFM?
843 hours according to online records with steam...
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
I dabbled in a few of them Toonboom, Flash, Blender, and Stick Figure animator...but I never made anything of them.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
I generally like any animation better then my own...which is almost every animation.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Yes, However they didn't have the fancy pose to pose one or the other helpful ones till after I painfully figured those out.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Yes because I am a idiot.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
I don't think I am expert enough to judge. I will say that it certainly has a easier learning curve then some of them.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
Till I can't allocate time to it any longer.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
I have so many projects in the air right now its not even funny... and then classwork and work work...
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
It only needs to look realistic from the angle you are shooting from. You don't need to animate the feet if the head is the only thing visible.
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
I was given an early beta key after it was released.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
Ever since I got the key last July.
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
Nope
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
I like them all. I tend to like TF2 ones just because I get to see what other people take away from the game.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Yes, I wish they would do more on the particle editor.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
Anyone that hasn't gotten angry with SFM is lying. I've never really stopped using it though.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
8/10
Its free and its extremely powerful. There's a lot of content that comes with it stock, plus it has support for all other Valve games and models. The one thing that I've always had a problem with is how Valve released it then sort of left the community with it, so we have to sort a lot of it out ourselves. I'm sure the program is capable of a lot more than we currently know about but, sometimes it feels like Valve is holding out on us.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
Until something better comes along. I've tried Maya, but I always come back to SFM.
9 - Do you have a project and thinks about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
I have a big project that I've been reluctant to start because I've put a lot into the story and I don't want to destroy it with my noobism. But, I will most likely finish it soon.
10 - Finally, Do you have any final words to share with this community?
You guys are great, I've seen stuff that I never would have thought possible. We really need to crank out more organized tutorials, like what Jimmer Lins started. If some people wanted to get together and pick up that mantle, I'd be more than happy to help. Every one of us has got something unique we've learned from using SFM and we should really think about giving back so the community can grow.
1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
A bit before it was publicly released. I sent some Gmod artwork to the SFM team and asked if they'd pass me a key. They ignored me. Being too determined and stubborn to be ignored, I went ahead and sent the same letter and the Gmod artwork to Robin Walker. He replied posthaste, his response to me containing an SFM beta key and a message containing praise, telling me that he expected great things from me. I was ecstatic.
The artwork in question:

2 - How long you've been using SFM?
465 hours according to Steam, and that's time well spent to me.
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
Not at all, which is why I was very lost and skeptical about using SFM when I finally got my mitts on it.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
Currently TF2 animations are what I work with most, as TF2 is my favorite Valve game. Suffice to say, I've attempted to dabble with the other games like L4D and Half Life.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
I told myself I didn't need the tutorials and that I was good enough to figure out SFM myself. 5 minutes later I had food and drink at hand and I was listening carefully to the wise words and sneezing of Bay Raitt and his tutorial videos.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you couldn't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
I've gotten very angry at several points of my time with SFM. Many of those spurred from moments of inconvenience, but lots of times I also found myself angry at my incapability to animate things a certain way, to satisfy my perfectionist standard. I looked at amazing videos created by others, videos which I thought I could only dream of replicating. At times, I almost felt discouraged. However I knew stopping and giving up wouldn't get me anywhere. I continued to practice and eventually I became decent enough with the animations that I felt proud of the works I was able to produce. In fact, I was tickled pink by the positive responses some of my videos got, and felt absolutely great when someone other than me found one of my videos and linked to them in the TF2 Media thread. It meant my videos were now good and humorous enough that people wanted to share it with everyone else.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
I'll give it a 9 outta' 10. SFM is extremely diverse and I was blown away by all the features it has. It was like opening an enormous toybox and being told to go nuts with whatever was inside. However, there were various bugs that caused problems here and there. Though lots of them were quickly fixed, a couple still remain. There also still isn't official support for Valve's other game's assets for use in SFM. The program is still in beta though of course, so I'm not bothered by this all that much. It's a wonderful program.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
For a long, long time. Whenever I have spare time, then I like to work on videos.
9 - Do you have a project and think about sharing with us in the future (a movie, a character model, a map, a tutorial videos)?
I'm not too sure where I'm going with it one of them yet, but I have two long projects currently in the works. The first one is a zany crossover of sorts between Half Life and TF2. The second one involves the TF Team getting very drunk and silly things happening. This one isn't fully scripted out yet and I'll need various things for it to become reality.

I have a ton of unfinished jokes stacked to the ceiling. Odds are I'll compile them together as is my want. I have a couple of ideas for Actual Narrative Videos up my sleeve, but don't expect them to be actually serious in any way, shape or form.

4 - What [del]animations[/del] pictures you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
Mostly other things. I don't make much with TF2, but I do have some ideas for that.

No. I should get around to that.
6 - Have you got angry because of something you couldn't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
Not really. The closest I've come to getting frustrated is when my graphics card wasn't compatible with SFM. But Valve added support, so I'm good.
Oh yeah, and when a model crashes SFM. That still pisses me off.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
9/10. Tedious to use, but the results are worth it.

3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
I never really used any high end animation tools, but before I got into SFM I did lots of mapping/lighting with Q3Radiant for COD4.
I have become halfway decent at using Sony Vegas Pro 12, and I have forgotten all the photchop/illustrator shit from my ROP class in HS.
4 - What animations pictures you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
TF2, but I am going to do something with Day of Defeat for the Saxxies. But I will use anything as long as it isn't a cartoon horse.
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Some of them, I taught myself most of what I know tho, they are wayyy too long so I didn't really pay attention. I do refer to the wiki now and then tho.

6 - Have you got angry because of something you couldn't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
The only thing that made me rage quit was how I lost a project (early in my SFM days) because of no autosave, and the only backup save I had was like an hour of work in and not like 15. FUUUUUUUUUUUU!
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
8/10. The possibilities are limitless but it could be a little more user friendly. Some people see it and just quit hahahahahahah! The one thing it really needs for me tho is an autosave feature.

I'm planning to make a sequel to I Will Always Love Sandvich after my Saxxy video, and I am currently making a 1 min short.
With other SFM stuff I have like 7238237236 floaty ideas out there.
I have several tutorials up for people who have no idea what they are doing.
I might make some more maps with Hammer but I like Radiant better.

1 - When you began using SFM (Source Filmmaker)?
I started experimenting with the leaked alpha (and GMod/3ds max) in 2011, and began using the public version during closed beta.
2 - How long you've been using SFM?
Steam says 147 hours, but that's because I tend to animate outside of SFM, in 3ds max, Maya, or MotionBuilder.
3 - Have you used any animation programs before SFM?
3ds max.
4 - What animations you like to do most (L4D2, Dota2, HL, TF2, All or others)?
TF2 - it has more potential for exaggerated cartoony animation, however I plan to make things using other models eventually
5 - Have you watched ALL Valve's videos tutorials to use SFM?
Nope!
6 - Have you got angry because of something you could't do in a animation and stopped using SFM?
Angry? Not really, but I do tend to scrap a lot of animations, feeling they aren't good enough.
7 - Whats your rating about the SFM program and why? (0/10)
9/10. Not only is it free, but it has a lot of flexibility, so it can be used by beginners and well versed animators alike. However the interface is less than user friendly.
8 - How long you think you will continue using SFM?
I dunno - SFM is quite flexible and will continue to be very usable for a long time.
