It's with great excitement that I'm finally able to reveal a project that's been in the works for the past 5-6 months. Cloud Odyssey is a 20 minute sci-fi film that I'm producing in partnership with Oracle Corporation and highlights include custom character and prop models, 4K rendering, custom VFX such as rayfire sims, particle effects and professionally recorded voice overs and soundtrack.
Besides the custom created models, the Source community in general really stepped up and provided content that without which, this project wouldn't have been possible. My team includes many prominent members of the SFM and Source community and while I won't go into full details and credits on this post, I strongly encourage them to speak up in the comments below and provide some details on the excellent and invaluable work they did.
Much more information on this project will be coming in the weeks ahead. So far I've only been authorized to link the teaser which is below. A full trailer is on the way and the entire film will be released online by the end of the year. Behind the scenes videos, concept art, design breakdowns and much more will be coming soon. Please check out the official facebook page for background info on the characters and universe, updates on the project and show Oracle the strength of the Source community by liking the page: https://www.facebook.com/CloudOdyssey
I'm currently writing this from my hotel room in San Francisco where I'm helping to promote the film at Oracle's annual OpenWorld event. Cloud Odyssey has it's own booth at the Moscone West Exhibition Hall and I'm there all day demoing Source Filmmaker and answering any and all questions about the film and the process involved in making it. Stop on by if you happen to be in the area!

And without further ado, the Cloud Odyssey teaser:

This is made in the SFM?? Holy shit this is amazing!
Hooray for sci-fi!
Looks very interesting. Who is the ordinary man? Is it the person seen running through the streets? Just curious.
Is that Lt's "scifi box" map? If so, then a great choice!
Can't say much about your project, because the trailer doesn't really reveal much at all beyond the fact that asteroids are serial killers. It looks really good, though!

Well it started as that, but since I was approached for additional work to supplement that map, I've been making content for this project for months. In all, I think he has about 5GB worth of assets that I've contributed, and continue to add on to.
I've been responsible for essentially sets, background props, and ingame holographic UI.

Yes, I can confirm that Lt_C's work is incredibly important to this project, it just wouldn't look as good without it! I'm trying to convince Oracle to allow me to release all the custom pieces he made for it. And yes this is just a teaser, the next trailer will reveal more about the story and characters.

Good stuff. I actually wondered that after taking a few closer looks. I realized he looks really similar to the guy in the middle of your promo poster in the pictures... except with longer hair. Can't wait to see this.
I've created 3 HWM faces for this project and it was the thing that got me to start working on Blender HWM Tools after Elizabeth, and though we can't quite see these faces in here, the orange potatohead alien you can see on the screen on the first photo has a lot of my work in him :)
It really feels awesome to do stuff for a 'real' commercial movie in Source Filmmaker, and it's especially worth mentioning, that you, Mr Palmer, are one very good employer
My god, that was amazing. Can't wait for full movie.
Amazing stuff, I mean, dayum.
Been working on this project since the beginning. It sure has come a long way even for such a short time! Glad to be making history here, PalmliX!

who's doing the particle effects? someone from here?
I'll keep my eye on this for sure.

Zachariah Scott did some of the particles (the tractor beam and ship propulsion) and the explosion effects were done in After Effects.
Looking great :)
Woah.
