MY CRIES HAVE BEEN HEARD!
Oh so materials can be swapped out now or what?
Oh so materials can be swapped out now or what?
Yeah, you can now change the texture and normal map, all you have to do is use Override Materials, then go to the material you want to change the texture of in the element viewer, and add a new string called $basetexture or $bumpmap then just type the directory and file name of the VTF like you would in a VMT (minus the "s before and after the file path)
It might work with other texture based parameters like $detail, but i've yet to try that
Oh good then I can make a Gold skin script.
Does it mean fluid animated change between two textures using slider would be possible??

Not likely unless you make a dozen textures that would fit in-between them.
Does it mean fluid animated change between two textures using slider would be possible??
No, as Doc ock rokc said, but i have an idea that maybe you can use $detail, $detailblendmode 0 and create a somehow slider for $detailblendfactor to have the new texture fade in
Then blade the clip and in the next one have the texture used for $detail set to $basetexture and use a new texture for $detail and have that one fade in the same way
Sounds like it might work, but the materials you do that to must have those parameters in their VMT files for you to be able to modify them within the SFM
Apparently you can't just give any material a detail texture in the SFM with those other parameters, it has to be in the VMT beforehand
I need to find out how to do that, considering that I planned on doing something like this with one of my nuclear warhead models. Don't you get to edit materials like these in VTFedit or something?

Thats really great idea, thanks! :)
Still cant belive Source is the only engine on market struggling with doing dynamic material blend, feature available in every other game engine since XXIst century, damn :D
