Alright, I've tried to ask others for help but I'm having no luck so I'm gonna try here.
This is the issue:
I have three scout models: concept scout (in its own folder), HWM scout (in the tf_movies folder) and enhanced scout (in my usermod folder).
I've been trying to change some of the facial features for the scout (making him into a character I named Johnny), which I did by editing the scout_head vtf. Easy peasy. The problem I'm having is this..
When I put the scout_head(edited) into the Usermod enhanced scout folder, nothing happens. The texture doesn't change. It won't change until I put it into the tf_movies folder. That's well and good, but I want to be able to use my retextured head and the original texture in the same poster.
I was thinking maybe there's a fix for this? Am I doing something wrong? I'm guessing it'll be easier to put the enhanced model into his own folder (after somehow figuring out what to delete) and add it to the gameinfo like I did with the concept scout.
My other option is creating a "custom model" and having his own folder like the concept scout. Being the noob at SFM as I am, I thought that copying only the model(s) from the tf and usermod folder would take care of that, but it doesn't. I read that I have to edit some .qc files(?) but again.. I'm pretty new at this.
Any suggestions or perhaps any tutorials out there that can help me be able to have my custom model and the original scout in the same poster?
Thank you for your time!
Use MDLHexer. Point it at the model you're using, and on the list of textures, find the face texture, and in the box to the right, put in the directory of the one you want to use. It will make a duplicate model with the new texture you pointed it at without changing the old model. I does this exact same thing you're trying to do alot.
