Want to obtain professional Mocap animations of dances, walking, sitting, or anything of the sort? Well this tutorial will help you find the animation to choose from in Second Life and then exporting following by converting it to dmx. Enjoy! This is a 3 step tutorial with 1 step per video on how to first extract animations that are in Second Life (possibly against their TOS, just don't tell them >.>) Required Stuff and Stuff: Maya Script: http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1197170&p=36728788&viewfull=1#post36728788 Maya: http://usa.autodesk.com/maya/ Motion Builder: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/index?id=13581855&siteID=123112 DarkStorm: http://www.kinggoon.net/forum/thread-44272.html Riggs and stuff: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/58144757/Mocap%20stuff.zip DarkStorm is a Second Life viewer which has features that Second Life may not call legal, like a copybot which recreates peoples already made stuff, and exporting things. One thing it exports is Animations. We will go and look for an animation we want, and then export it in the first video. Motion Builder is an Animation tool. I don't use it to make animations, I mainly use it to convert animations but this is the tool we use for the second video. You can get Motion Builder for free if you are a student, or you can get the free trial. Maya is used for many things, I mostly use it to create meshes for Second Life, but in this tutorial we are using it only to export the animation as a dmx, a sort of Middle Man. This is used in the third video. Riggs and stuff is the files we will be using in these tutorials. what is second life? the animation from what i've seen in your last video doesn't look excellent/"pro" thanks for the dumb ratings, pros.
what is second life? the animation from what i've seen in your last video doesn't look excellent/"pro"
Second Life does not have finger bones, so when you have an animation on Second Life that relies on the finger, or neck bones you will have to manually edit it in Source Filmmaker, but I figure its ok because you have a good base. Second Life bones don't include fingers, the neck, the multiple bones of the spine... it only includes like 1 spine bone. It does not include toes... or any accessories like the spy's cig or the scouts .
Good tutorial, wouldn't suggest the use of Darkstorm for ripping animations though because the one from kinggoon contains keyloggers, building your own viewer from the source code with these features should work however. I use a privately built one which I'd prefer not to share in public. If you drop me a message however I'll send a download link.
. I use a privately built one which I'd prefer not to share in public.
Thanks for that.

Ive been using it for almost a year now and I have not been hacked, and there is no reports of it containing a keylogger.
.bvh isn't just for Second Life. It is a universal motion capture format. You can download some free ones here
Hopefully when the SFM Depot is finished, people will upload converted animations.

But the overall tutorial is about getting it from Second Life, because there is a lot of good ones in SL, and its a great sandbox game to find some.
Really awesome. Thanks for the tip!
Sorry for the four day bump, but when I attempt to import my DMX, source film maker complains about it not having animations in the file. I followed your tutorial as close as I could, any pointers?

Once I ad the same issue because I forgot to bake the animation in Motion Builder.
what is second life? the animation from what i've seen in your last video doesn't look excellent/"pro".
Its practically a MMO that runs itself through the community and economy.
