how to compile models for sfm? - Games

i use blender and 3ds max, i tried many tutorials but none really worked

I had this problem many months ago, In blender where are you getting stuck perhaps I can try to help? Been using blender for the past 6+ years. Working with Source for past 6 months.

Essentially what you need to do is name the material in blender with name of the image you are using as a texture. so you have an image you want to use as the texture. you name the material in blender the name of the image + extension so name the material in blender: Image.png Then using VTF editor you import the image save the image in the folder that the QC file is looking for the material as a VTF, and drop the extension at this point so save it as: image.vtf <note dropping of .png> Then creat a VMT using VTF editor here is a basic one "VertexLitGeneric" { "$basetexture" "models/props/image" "$surfaceprop" "metal" "$model" 1 } Where "image" is the name of the image you are using for the texture. Then save this VMT in the same folder as the image.vtf both should be at the location of the $cdmaterials file path now when you compile the .smd with the .QC it will locate the textures and put them onto your compiled mesh. This is information that is relevant in the video that I posted a few days back you can find it around the 7:00 minute mark where it talks about it.

And again the video is of an older version of Blender, however the tools still work the same. The process for the materials is the exact same process. So if you know how blender functions you should be able to figure it out.
