A gigantic space rock called 3200 Phaethon is due to brush ‘quite close’ to our planet on December 17, Russian astronomers have revealed. This huge asteroid is thought to cause the beautiful Geminids mteteor shower which will take place between December 13 and 14 as hundreds of bright meteors illuminate the night sky as they burn up in Earth’s atmosphere.

I got excited, but then it said "brush quite close" instead of "slam right into us and end it all".
Meteorites are terrifying tbh, if one was gonna slam right into us, I'm sure it would be kept undercover.
Funny how they'd wanna prevent panic and looting even though we'd all be dead anyhow. I'd rather know, no matter how terrifying, so I could make arrangements for seeing the people I care about. I'd be pissed if the world ended while I'm working.
I doubt that if a collision was 100% entirely inevitable that it would be kept a secret. What's the point?
