• Fix your official servers?

Just started playing this game and have played mostly on the US West Official Servers. However, for a game that has been out for roughly 3 years, how are the servers this unstable? I keep hearing that it's DDOS attacks but for a game this far a long what is the holdup on fixing it or preventing it from happening? Seems like the server I play on is either laggy or down more often than it's up.
Ryso, Since you are new I will lay down the facts, however it is up to you to use them and pass them on. What you are hearing about Officials is absolutely 100% correct. 95% of those servers are constantly hit with Hackers, DDoS, excessive downtime , are un administrated or moderated and have numerous bugs and exploits. If that list isn't long enough for one to stay away, I don't know what is. Community, I can not preach this enough
Thanks for the information Rush, I still have a hard time believing that a game that has been out 3 years even if it's still in alpha, hasn't worked on making their official servers better first and foremost. Trying to play while constantly being interrupted by lag or server crashing just seems odd. I've played too many games with less than 3 years of early access that have far more stable servers than this game. Are the Dev's doing anything to address this or are they playing ignorant to the issues?
Those servers are primarily for testing out builds and pretty much nothing more. It usually is the case with being called official that they are tighter and usually the most harm free, not in this case.
I keep seeing them make little changes to random things in the game and posting it as an update. They need to fix their servers so we can enjoy these little changes they're making. Can't enjoy anything this game has to offer if the servers are down more than they are up. The last 36 hours on US West 2 have been a nightmare. If it's truly DDOS attacks and this game has been 3 years in the making, what are they doing to stop/prevent this? Does anyone in this community know what their plans are? I keep hearing that cheaters are another problem, why don't they use a better anti-cheat system? I know I'm new to the community and playing catch up on a lot of things but it seems like the Dev's are working on things that are far less important than server stability and anti-cheat.
If I read all the posts of official servers that having problems for a long time, I'm getting the feeling that a time will come with only 1-2 official test branches, rest removed and only server owners from community / modded will provide places to play.
In all games I've ever played, the official servers are the best servers. It shouldn't be different in Rust. These official servers should represent the Dev's commitment to the game and the players who bought the game to play their product. I know I may sound a bit negative about my experiences so far, but I really do enjoy this game. It's been a lot of fun to play so far when the servers are actually working properly. If the Dev's care about this community, they certainly aren't showing it through their own official servers.
If I pay €40-80 per month for my own server, that statement is already far gone hahaha, but I understand your point if your someone that only wants to play official servers ;)
I'm pretty certain that what is happening on the official servers could happen on any server.
I'm pretty sure that it won't happen on my server, because I'm willing to spend more if the ddos protection got breached, if they ever will be able to do that!
If what you say is true, Facepunch is really dropping the ball on their official servers. It's a complete letdown that they make a game and not provide a stable platform of official servers to play on.
I understand that, but I also have to give this note, otherwise it can sound like I want to roast Facepunch on this: I've got a server, and it's protected verry well. I'm pretty sure in normal circumstances I can get 200 players, and normal rate of getting DDOS without the server and players getting affected with it. BUT: Rust has thousands of players, in my case for example max 10-20 players max will group up to give server DDOS, and it will not be succesfull, but in rust's case, more than 100-1000 kids being salty about updates can group up, and give them a combined DDOS. I'm not sure what would happen in that case on my server to be sure. On the other side, server hosts have multiple levels of DDOS protection, if one is not good enough, they should spend some extra money on a better one.
