Hey guys,
Just wanted to see if any other web developers with more years of experience have experienced anything similar to this before.
So a few things have cropped up in my personal life which has resulted in me having to look for a new job. Currently work as a lead engineer at a pretty nice company. The last year has been a case of saving up to purchase my own home in and around London. (Waterloo / London Bridge region). Unfortunately changes with the family mean they will be relocating. Now I can either bite the bullet and start renting which is less than desirable considering I'm close (about 6 months away) from being able to put a deposit down on a home or I relocate with the family and take this new job offer.
The job offer I got was again as a Lead engineer for ironically about £11k more with a very prestigious digital agency who function both here and in the states. Problem is this contract say temp-to-perm for a start for 3 months, I've always been wary of those, not because of my own abilities but because of the potential way the company could be. Their budget was originally 6k less, but they went off to their finance team and got approved for a 6k rise to get me to join them. They had apparently been struggling to get a lead developer for some time now.
Anyway, the irony is, my current company is quite a small one. 10 people or so, but I love my colleagues and really like the environment. Both companies are great and in an ideal world I would take the job if it weren't temp-to-perm. But at the same time I can't afford the volatility at the moment of staying in London unless I rent and have a higher salary where I currently am.
So the main question is, has any one had experience with Temp-To-Perm. They said in the interview they would want to bring me in on a FT basis after the 90 day probationary period. Which I'm sure in any other company I would ace, and have done before. It's just the temp-to-perm issue. Alternatively any other suggestions would be great.
TL;DR. Offered a new job, on a temp to perm. Company raised the amount they were willing to pay by around 6k to ensure I would take the contract. How safe are Temp-To-Perm as opposed to the usual FT positions.
Don't take my word as fact, but I think that if they went to those length to make sure you join them it might mean the temp-to-perm thing is just a formality. And you'll probably get through it anyway. As far as I know they use those to get rid of people who turn out to be worthless, but you'll probably do fine.

Fingers crossed, thanks for the advice!
