• Opera javascript starters?

I have had a lot of idea in my head for awhile now of things that could help improve my browsing speed and/or experience in opera. The Main problem right now is that I don't know anything about javascript and all the tutorials I tried to look up for the thing I wanted to do right now were either bad or didn't help me with what I wanted. What I would love to do right now is this:

Retrieve part of a url.
Display a linked icon in the same place in the browser window.
Open the linked content in the very page the icon was clicked in, even if the link forces a new tab/window.
Have the link change dynamically depending on the current page you are on, but still only appear for one website.
What I would really love from you guys is either link(s) to disscussions about one or more of these or a tutorial for the things I need either in a link or written by one of you. If you decide to help me by posting the code or trying to help me with the code, remember to help by further explaining what each thing does, I don't want a "Here's the code.". I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help me with this. [editline]03:32AM[/editline] Well I pretty much just learned the way the language works by w3schools, Now I just need a function list, I'll search around, if I find non that are good, please provide a link to a good function list site.
Found a makeshift function list but I am having a hard time figuring out where to start. Opps, unintentional bump >.<
