I'm not asking for someone to teach me or something I just want some info. Any specific programs I need to use?
A C++ compiler.
Visual studios 2008 or 2010. Also i know you said you dont want to be taught but im using this site http://cplusplus.com/ to learn as well.
I used cplusplus.com and learncpp.com to learn C++.

If you're a student you can also use Dreamspark to get Visual Studio 2010 for free (no express version, not that it matters that much in your case though).
If you need any help, just PM me and i'll try my best. I don't bother :buddy:

I have dreamspark and MSDNAA yet I'm not using pro. It's EULA forbids production of commerical programs, I'd rather just stick with the more open express edition.

There is an express version. Look at the post above yours.

Did the express edition permit commercial use? I thought it was for "educational use only"?
If you don't like Microsoft, the other option is MinGW and some IDE, two of which I have used (and disliked, but that's another thing): Code::Blocks and CodeLite.

I know, that's why i said "no express version", followed by that it probably doesn't matter considering he'll only be doing basics for now.

Lol no.
Can I use Express Editions for commercial use?
Yes, there are no licensing restrictions for applications built using Visual Studio Express Editions.
Why would they limit express to educational use when that's what dreamspark is for? That wouldn't make any sense.

I found a discounted student version of VS2010 Professional in the UK Amazon store. It's £124.30 as opposed to the £709.97 price tag attached to the commercial version. I've only just started learning to program and I don't know how the editions differ, but you being a UK dweller I thought you may be interested.
