Good day, dear wizkid.
Recently my until-today-unkown-2nd father died and has apparently put me on his testament. Apart from a nickle, a half empty bottle of strangely odoured gum and a trident, it is this weird USB stick that caught my attention. I plugged it into my computer, and to my surprise it only containted an executable and a file called "fortune.dat". Opening the fortune.dat in Notepad gave me nothing but weird gibberish!
As curious as I was, I ran the executable. It asked for input, which I supplied. To my big surprise the program quit upon submitting my input ("it seems like a touch too much"), and I noticed that another .dat file was created!
My gut feeling, which is always right because of my third nipple, tells me that the content of fortune.dat will provide me with 5000 pieces of eight. Can you help me to decypher this encrypted file, dear Facepunchee? The first one to decypher the weird contents of this file and to bring me this fortune will receive a share of 0.1%.
I have uploaded the weird content of this USB stick to this "FileSmelt" website, I don't trust it but oh well.

I really hope somebody can help me,

You say the executable is a .dat? Are you sure it's not a .dat.exe?
How big is it? An hour or two with IDA or OllyDBG should be enough to work it out.
Interesting..
When you signed it with, 'Vladimir "Shammah" Cockjentskovich' I remembered an EMail I got from a Nigerian scammer today. This does, indeed, sound like a very interesting plot you've got yourself in!
Sounds like some troll attempt

Moar like ARG or just a plot-based competition.

The executable is at an incredibly size of 2 kilobytes. The weird .dat file is the output of the required input of the executable. Also I have a feeling simply decrypting the .dat file will not directly lead to the answer, as all people in my gene pool not only tend to have big noses, but also have a trick or two behind their sleeves...

I'd like to give everybody an equal chance, so I'm planning to start this all on October the 1st at 19:00 GMT.
My apologies, I didn't see that this hadn't started yet.
A bit out-of-character: this is the first time and still is an experiment. Hence, the reward will only be 5€ as I'd like to know how this goes. I'm trying to make this a fun challenge for everybody, which is a hard thing to do. I will try to do my best and make this as good and fun as possible.
€5
The euro symbol is a suffix and not a prefix, therefore 5€ and not €5. :)
The euro symbol is a suffix and not a prefix, therefore 5€ and not €5. :)
I always see it written €5, almost never as 5€
Defiantly interested, pretty sure I will not be fast enough, but would love to simply to say I managed to

Americans thinks every currency should be a prefix.
Americans thinks every currency should be a prefix.
*cough* £ *cough*
Alright, just end the prefix / suffix argument, it doesn't matter anyway.

No it's not really.

Even in the first part
s of June 2010[update], with more than €800 billion in circulation, the euro is the currency with the highest combined value of banknotes and coins in circulation in the world, having surpassed the U.S. dollar.[note 15] Based on IMF estimates of 2008 GDP and purchasing power parity among the various currencies, the eurozone is the second largest economy in the world.[7]
Wikipedia is wrong, take it from an European.
it's 5€.
Who cares if it is prefix or suffix? People understand it anyways.
"It cost me 5 Euros"
thus
5 Euros
5 €
not Euros Five.
It's just established that it should be used like this.

look at this wonderful ninja
You say 5 dollars yet its $5. Your logic is wrong.

In every (internet) shop in my European country, the €-sign is a prefix. (Example)

That's EURO 53,90, yet that doesn't mean it's how it should be used.
I can't believe we went from a Reversme contest to a debate abou thow you should use prefixes/suffixes :D
HOLY SHIT it does not matter whether the euro sign is a prefix or suffix. What the goddamn fuck is wrong with you guys?

Welcome to the Programming forum. It's all a huge argument here.
We don't argue for real. We just stage these arguments to keep unwanted people out.
