Okay so I'm in highschool right now (freshman) and I want to know what's best to learn first in programming. I'm not sure what company I want to work for in the future, but I know I want to work for a game company. If anyone knows, who can tell me what languages do they use at: Blizzard Ent. EA Games Activision Also, I may plan to work for Apple or Microsoft or another company after that. I know C++ is the best language and Apple uses Objective-C, but what's the best one to learn like right now? (User was banned for this post ("Read the sticky" - SteveUK))
all you need to know is to avoid objective-c at all costs.
Depends on how well you can teach yourself, as well as how much commitment you have to learning a programming language. Most people here will suggest C++/Java for the 'best' language to learn while others will suggest C# for getting into game development. Both are valid opinions, but this varies person to person. Personally I would suggest C++ to start off, if you find that too difficult then switch to c# until you get to grips with programming. Do not expect this to be quick and easy, it takes most people years before they are proficient enough to write a decent piece of software.
