Don't even know what question to ask. Here is what I want to do.

I have a definite drive to create a specific application. I would like to write it in C preferably, but I am willing to learn any language to get it done. I know it has been done before, but I would like to make a stand alone guitar tuner application.

The idea is that the guitar is plugged into either then line-in jack, or the microphone jack and the Hz of whatever tone is played can be determined.

I would like it to have the same functionality as [url]http://www.nch.com.au/tuner/index.html[/url]
But my question is not how do I write one, my question is where do I even begin, I don't even know what to search on google.

Thus far, I have determined that using directSound or the like would be a good start, but can anyone suggest anything to point me in the right direction??
