• Funding Game Development

I want to start developing some indie games with my friends, but I've come to the major catch. I don't have a bunch of money to throw at this. How do you people get the cash to start developing?
With a real job.
Most of these guys in here develop their stuff without funds, not counting their computer. I don't know how you would come to the conclusion that little indie games are heavily funded.
My best guess (And plan if my game needs money) Is to do what Notch did. Get your game to a enjoyable beta and sell it for discount then. Promise full version when it comes out.
Why do you require money to develop a game, anyways? If it's just a team of friends, I don't see any possible supplies you'd need.

And game designing takes a lot of time.

But going off the basic assumption of the common facepuncher, he probably still lives with his parents, and would just like to make some games with his friends. If he's asking such a silly question, then I can too. My question still stands.

Stupid question or not, there's borderline retarded then there's your question.

Use free shit. Then upgrade to the real shit.
Well I want to work on a high quality indie game. I just don't have several grand for crap like Maya ATM. And I don't think you can use the Express editions of Visual Studio to sell a commercial product.
Yeah you can...

You don't meed Maya it's not like you are working with individuals that have been using their tools for ages, learning how to use blender wont hurt you. 2. You can use the Express Editions for anything you like. 3. You could make an Indie game that makes millions without spending a single penny. There are so many great tools for free and for every skill-set. Art, Webhosting, Rendering you can get everything for free with great documentation and community support.
Kickstarter if you think people will genuinely be interested with what you have.
Get people with lots of money excited about your game. http://www.moddb.com/games/natural-selection-2/features/game-investment-talk [editline]12:56PM[/editline] You have to realize that you're not just making a game, you're running a business.
What's wrong with Dreamspark for a full version of Visual Studio?
Well, it's not available to everyone and it's non-commercial only.
And I don't think you can use the Express editions of Visual Studio to sell a commercial product.
Erm.. yes you can, same with Dreamspark versions
The only limitation on Dreamspark IIRC is that you have to use it to learn, which is pretty broad and unenforceable.

You have: http://www.indie-fund.com/ It offers funding for indies.
Well, it's not available to everyone and it's non-commercial only.
He already signed up in the other thread, but I didn't know about the non-commercial part.
