Main div won't cover the whole thing. (floats)

I'm setting up a blog with a main content bar on the left and a sidebar on the right, and theres a container div which should wrap everything, but it doesn't. It reaches the header and doesn't cover the rest.

The container div is red, hidden under the cyan part.
I can't use fixed pixel size so I need a way to do it dynamically

Looks fine on chrome. And it looks the same way in internet explorer.
