5 minutes after that i went to the computer/ IT office and had a chat with the head of IT.... after that i found myself in AS Level computer science programming in C# :) Originally they were teaching VB, but this year they changed to C# meaning i had more interest in it... so i figured i might as well join the course (al bit 4 weeks late) So far getting along fine, they seemed to only be teaching Binary and hex, somthing i had already done in electronics AS Level (i was supposed to be finishing it to an A-level, however the timetable clashed) Are there any tips for the UK first year of an A-level computer science? (I won't be doing the second year as i have no desire to stay for a FOURTH year at this damn college, haha)
What's the exam board?
I am... not even sure, didn't think to ask them, i was just bored and had an hour to kill + 4 hours per week and decided to sign on, since i have good experiance with C# extra-curricularly I would expect EdExcel as thats what most of the courses are at our college.
C# good language. Nice level of abstraction and some cool concepts. Has lots of built-in shit you need to memorize though - don't reinvent the wheel! Not sure how you're getting off with not doing high-level math in College Computer Science though, but yeah.
Well, update time! I caught up to everyone else within 3 days of joining the course. Its really easy..... A bit of binary and logic gates, unsigned/signed bytes etc. The C# programming tasks are just taking the piss, we haven't even started on if-statements yet and we are 5-6 weeks in now and quite a few people are -actually- having trouble with it. I built a game of minesweeper last lesson as the programming tasks they had in a booklet were just too easy and boring (they wern't actual graded work anyway) We won't even be touching on networking and sql, the most we get to is serialization and saving files right at the end of the year. Oh well, its better then just sitting in the canteen for 4 hours a week. As easy as it is, its fairly entertaining

Don't just sit there following the slow class. Have fun learning on your own, using the class to learn the fundamentals and stuff.
