What made you get into programming? My reason is pretty stupid but: About 2 or 2 and a half years ago, I started seeing my friends on steam play half life 2 mods. Zombie Master, Insurgency, ect. So I wanted to make (quoted from my idiotic self) "the best damn hl2 mod ever". So I googled up hl2 modding, fount a lot of source code and things that I didn't understand. But C++ was everywhere. Googled C++ and a few days after really understanding what the hell C++ was, I got a few books, read and got started progressing. I never made that mod by the way for those wondering :v: So tell me, what made you?
I was raised by bears that only spoke vb. Serious response: Making electronic projects at school.
I just had a fascination with the subject for as long as I could remember. And when I was in 4th grade and realized that even I was capable of doing it back then, a spark ignited in my head and a passion was born. TLDR: I'm a nerd :downs:
Some of my family is in to programming so after watching them for a while with their help I made my first hello world in VB6, i have since surpassed many others with other languages.

I had no hobby and was interested in computers, so I decided to make something computer-related my hobby. Not sure what it was about programming, but there was something about it that drew me to it. I have not one regret for this action.
When I was 8 I wanted to print shit through the printer. So my dad brought a perl book home from work. I was excited to see the print statement only to find it didn't actually print things :sigh:
Curiosity about how programs were made/written.
Learned shit tier HTML from YouTube tutorials in middle school, discovered Garrysmod in high school, scripted all day 'erry day, got bored of scripting and learned C++, now a dropout taking community college classes :v: Edit: I see Soda is ovulating again.
It allowed me to be creative without (many) restrictions and be able to share it with people. (I can't draw)
I think VeryNiceGuy is a pretty cool guy. eh is creative without many restrictions and doesn't afraid of anything. ... I miss the year '08 when that would actually be considered funny.
-meme- ... I miss the year '08 when that would actually be considered funny.
it wouldn't ever be considered funny here. i'd suggest you snip that so a mod doesn't ban you for using a meme.
Oh man, I wanna lrn2Prgm. Where do I start? What language should I learn?
Oh man, I wanna lrn2Prgm. Where do I start? What language should I learn?
Might as well give up now if you can't use google or search the forums
There is something so precise about programming. It all just...fits together. And I really enjoy that feeling. Also, I've always wanted to create video games. I'm majoring in Game Design & Development in college currently.
There is something so precise about programming. It all just...fits together. And I really enjoy that feeling.
I love the feeling I get when I make something and it's so solid and functions properly and everything. [editline]26th November 2010[/editline]
Oh man, I wanna lrn2Prgm. Where do I start? What language should I learn?
If you're serious, try Python.
I just got bored playing video games on my PSOne. I just wondered how it all worked. I hadn't done much until I went to a friends house. His dad had DarkBASIC and I loved it. Then I got it for Christmas and have been programming (C++) ever since.
Tinkering with HL2's source code.
Programming looked cool. The lamest reason ever, really.
Programming looked cool. The lamest reason ever, really.
I disagree. It's not lame. If I didn't know what programming was and I saw someone just program I would most likely be amazed and want to understand it. : )
I think the main reason it seemed cool back in those days of Googling "how to make a computer program", was that when you did end up Googling for a how-to, there was nothing there. And so the hunt for knowledge begins :v:
I think the first "program" I ever made was a .VBS thing.
Back when I had dialup I discovered that you could run a server on your home computer pretty easily. (Anyone remember this?) Long story short I had installed YaBB and the idea of putting up an application on the web and everyone in the world could instantly use it really appealed to me. I didn't learn Perl though. :v:
As a little kid I would take apart electronic stuff, like watches, a floppy disc, I remember taking apart an iron.. while I don't think I understood what's going on in there my parents predicted that I'll probably be interested in science-stuff later. We had a Commodore 64 and my father bought an issue of some Commodore magazine that had an introduction to Commodore Basic V2. These were my first steps with programming, though I don't think I got past the PRINT and JUMP statement. A few years later a friend and me had the idea of re-making Worms, you know just in a way we thought was better. Back then, I didn't know how to attempt this. I knew that you could probably PRINT a bit of text, but I had no idea how you'd include graphics. The search on how you make programs began and that kept me motivated for quite a while, though the idea of re-making Worms was long gone, I wanted to make some kind of game.
A series of varying events. When I was around 10 I started making crappy websites on BraveNet with their website generator, but I was really annoyed how uncustomizable it was, like, insanely annoyed. I couldn't stand that I couldn't get the features I needed or the services I wanted so I was determined to just make my own damned website, but I had no idea how, so I looked up a few things, no tutorials or anything like that, but the HTML tags and what they did, as well as code snippets and source codes from other sites. So I taught myself through experimentation what everything did and got my parents to by me a domain name and hosting service with a company, the domain was something dorky like lost-rain.org or something ( I eventually cancelled it though ). After I setup the basic stuff and figured out how to upload html files, and eventually went over to PHP. I spent a lot of time making a CMS from scratch and a basic forum, exploring MYSQL eventually. It was really fun, and eventually led me too some awesome projects working with the Anchorage School District. Evidently being the programmer kid in a small school gets you some attention with the teachers and tech geeks ( Instead of doing work my teachers will let me program in class just because they're interested in it, and I eventually get my work done on time after school ), anyways, when I joined my schools Robotics team I made a half-assed site for my team, well, not half-assed, but it wasn't of much interest to me so I didn't spend all my free time working on it and improving it, but I was semi proud ( link: http://www.frc1548.org/ It's a bit broken though ) and I ended up doing a website for interviewing political candidates, where students would submit their questions online and they'd be answered during a live interview with major heads of coorporations ( http://voiceofstudents.org/index.php but again, I didn't care much for it ). After a while I figured that this sort of development wasn't for me, while I enjoyed making websites I ended up making the same thing over and over, there wasn't enough variety for me. But by this time I had been experimenting with python as a side hobby, and had gotten into game development. During this I picked up C++ and began looking around for 3D APIs, I jumped the gun a bit and havne't really mastered 3D development at all yet. So after a while I found SFML and basically haven't stopped working on random crap I don't finish since, but I'm really getting interested in A.I. and developing a super intelligent one. Idk. Long Story Short: I went into web development and then scripting because there was something I didn't like and wanted to make a better version.

One of these: that my dad had laying around. :buddy: Made a 'higher or lower' number guessing thing when I was around... 8? Played around with it some more, wanted something with more power. Went through a ton of languages before settling on C++.
I found some pretty good program to make bots for MSN about five years ago, which was written in VB6. That made me want to learn it too. After that, I moved on to more powerful languages.
I like creating my own stuff so I wanted to try create a program. My first program was a Chat spammer.
I learned python because I wanted to do blender plugin. But after I learned, I've never made any.
