Seeing as the event is a little over 2 days away and we don't have a thread for it, I figured I'd make one. Is anybody else planning on participating? Even though life is trying to find as many reasons to put obstacles in my path towards having time to compete this time, I'm doing my damnedest to make sure my weekend's clear. Depending on the theme, I'm planning to make a simple game with Flixel, using GIMP for the (programmer) graphics and sfxr for sound.
Probably going to enter this one - last time went (relatively) smoothly, so it should go fairly well. Just hope it's a good theme.
As long as it isn't Artificial Life, I should be fine. What tools do you plan on using?
Entering! C#/XNA
C#/XNA with gimp, sfxr/bfxr, and perhaps that free pixel art tool developed for a LD a while back. Doubt there'd be much else apart from that I'd need. Also, what's the usual process for uploading the entry at the end in regards to distributables? I've heard they don't particularly like having to install XNA ever time they play a different game, but seeing as I have hardly any experience in distributing the shit I make I'd prefer to find out beforehand :v:
I'm not too sure about that myself, having never actually finished an entry for the main LD competition. I try to make it so that it's all self included, but I'm not sure how XNA handles that. I'm considering hosting a small freeware Ventrilo server during the event for people to chat and complain on. Anybody interested or should I save myself the hassle?
May or may not do, have to see what my schedule is like.
Ugh so soon! I wanted to finish my game engine first!
I'm going to participate for my second time. Last time i made a really buggy space game that did not fit the theme at all :v: Hoping for a better theme this time.
I am participating for my first time. :) I'm making a Silent Hill themed strategy game :P
I am participating for my first time. :) I'm making a Silent Hill themed strategy game :P
You need to make it according to the theme that's posted.
Wish I could enter this, unfortunately, got an exam tuesday. Will probably follow it with interest though... and next time.
You need to make it according to the theme that's posted.
Argh. Damn.... maybe i'll just do it anyway for the jam. :p You never know, the theme might be wishy washy enough to wedge into my gameplay. :D Ah... I'll just shelve it and save it for a game jam or something, I'll do a proper LD23 entry :D
I'm entering with C#/XNA 20 hours and 34 minutes remaining. Also can anyone else not vote on themes? Like I sign in and I go to the page to vote.. and it just tells me to sign in again.
I loved competing in LD22, it was an awesome experience. I have a few friends who are interested and we were going to do the Jam, but sadly we won't be able to participate in this one because we're way too busy this weekend. There's always LD24... [editline]19th April 2012[/editline] Dammit, I just experienced the interactive keynote, now I really wish I had enough time to make even a small game this weekend :(

I'm a new, screwed programmer. D:

If you install it once all XNA games should work.
Bundle the XNA installer with your game, or link to it in your readme. It's very annoying from a judge's perspective, since most people will just download you game, run it once, and delete it.
Probably going to do something if the theme is good.
Fsdfsdfsgddfg Daylight Saving Time made me thing LD was later than it was. And I lost a whole hour. And I'm gonna lose 6 more hours later today because I have other things to do. why.jpg
I started, but need sleep. :/ will post stream link tomorrow!
I don't think I will ever join this contest, because if I make a game, it will be full of placeholder sprites since I suck at graphics and nobody will play it :v:.

Last time I stayed in the lower half of entries (sorted descending by vote count) but I still had ~60 downloads of the game and about 20 reviews.

I'm a bit grumpy, I have been woken too early... Anyways, I'm doing something with planets, and I'm using Python and Pygame.

I love your idea, it's amazing
[t]http://i39.tinypic.com/kaldhz.jpg[/t]
I think we might have a winner.
