• Looking for a reliable host.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a good, reliable web host, preferably in the UK or the Netherlands or somewhere around that particular region. I'd like it if they'd support PHP and provided MySQL. GD would be nice too. Money is really not an issue here, but I'd rather go for a cheap host than an expensive one. Not sure if this is the right section for this, but it seemed to me to be the most logical subforum to post in. Oh and by the way, I'm not going to be using it to host a massive forum or something, so I won't need a whole bunch of bandwidth. Any suggestions?

He's based in the Netherlands as well, and for a dutchie like you and me this is perfect. You can contact him on on this mail address. I'm not sure if he's the cheapest around, but he can always be reached on MSN and pretty much mails back within the hour. I'm currently hosting my own website there. I've had 0 downtime as of yet.
Do they have a website? I'd really prefer something less shady than just an MSN-address to be honest.
They're currently working on a new one. You can however read some reviews here. That should provide for some credibility.
CloudNine Web Services are great, cheap too: http://c9ws.com/
I assume you're just looking for shared hosting, not VPS/Dedicated?
Shared hosting is fine for what I want to do. Dedicated is nice, but it's generally extremely expensive.
http://fivebean.com/hosting/ is not that expensive, and their VPS packages are really cheap.
hostgator.com BEST EVER
hostgator.com BEST EVER
Neither netherlan nor british is it? Isn't it american?
Hostgator store your password in plaintext
hostgator.com BEST EVER
Hostgator are SHIT.
Hostgator store your password in plaintext
I could give less shit, for how much im paying them, along with using about 1 TB bandwidth each month for like 10 dollars, is fine for me.
I could give less shit, for how much im paying them, along with using about 1 TB bandwidth each month for like 10 dollars, is fine for me.
You don't get it.
I could give less shit, for how much im paying them, along with using about 1 TB bandwidth each month for like 10 dollars, is fine for me.
Bravo, you just don't get how bad your host is.
Bravo, you just don't get how bad your host is.
Okay they store my password in plaintext? What else is bad about them? [editline]02:09PM[/editline] Do tell. [editline]02:17PM[/editline] I'm awaiting the grueling downsides eagerly.
They store the passwords as plaintext. Their support team is run by people who appear to be 12 year olds. They have a bad history in the courts over misleading customers.
Definitely vs-hs, I host my site with them on tiny and it's awesome. When you need anything changing (like PHP variables) you can just hop on IRC and it's normally done within 10 minutes. Unlimited FTP accounts, unlimited MySQL databases, and unlimited subdomains. Includes all the trimmings of PHP you could want (GD, IM etc) Referral link, if you're in a cool mood: https://vs-hs.com/aff.php?aff=004 Normal site: https://vs-hs.com/
Still nothing.
Anyone that has access to the database can just steal your pass and do anything it wants with it. Normal hosts would never allow this.
You could always try me (if you're looking for VPS that is)! http://fanaticalvps.com/ Just bought a second node.
Fanatical VPS is awesome, it might be overkill for what the OP needs, but at $10 a month who cares‽
http://bluehost.com/ I hear some bitching about them every now and then. BUT, they have phenomenal customer service and aid reps. They have all that unlimited garbage the people love ( except your capped on files which means you can't have over like 200k files ). I like it. Dreamhost dreamhost dreamhost.
http://bluehost.com/
Their TOS changes after you make an account. :colbert:
I use mediatemple.
I use Lithium Hosting http://lithiumhosting.com
I use zymic.com for a school/hobby site. 6GB ad-free with PHP and MySQL and it's free.
What's the difference between hosting and your own VPS?
