I need to start learning Java, and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good book to start doing so. I don't like going off of videos, or most online tutorials.
Are there any good ones out there, or what have you used?
Even if you don't like video tutorials, I really recommend "thenewboston" on youtube
It's great if you need to get started with programming

Try codeacademy.com
It's interactive and stuff.

You can either learn java from this guy ^ who is for the most part an annoying twat that makes terrible jokes and doesn't know what he is talking about (thenewboston, not Extinct), or from a Stanford lecturer who decided to have his lectures put on youtube for beginners to watch (also, he is the most effective teacher I have ever seen)

Eugh. Stop recommending thenewboston please. Thanks.
It's funny he specifically said he doesn't like online stuff and yet all there is here is online stuff.
If you are still in High School, I would recommend taking the AP Computer Science course if your school offers it.
I learned Java from the AP prep books basically. :P
