Sorry for starting a new thread but this is quite an important issue I'm having.
Basically I purchased www.jaguarhomecarpeting.co.uk through 123-reg.co.uk well over 2 years ago. Recently I called BT to cancel a broadband service we have at our companies shop which we are selling, they said we would lose our domain name www.jaguarhomecarpeting.co.uk along with web hosting (I didn't even know we had it). Basically BT are saying that they own the domain name and 123-reg are also saying they own it. So my question is what is a quick way of finding out who actually owns this domain name? Should I be taking legal action against the party who don't own it and are selling it to me?
It's registered through 123-Reg. I think the domain/hosting they are talking about is something they package in with their broadband deals?

Yeah that's right but I explained I already owned it and was with a different company and BT said that was impossible?

That doesn't really make any sense, why would BT even know about this domain name, it has nothing to do with your broadband service?!
Because it is a business broadband package, they obviously gave us jaguarhomecarpeting.co.uk when we signed up. Apparently you get a domain name and hosting with that particular package.
Yeh but that's unrelated because you had already registered it with 123 reg. BT have no power over it
You will loose the hosting (unless you are paying for it) and you will loose the domain if you can't login to 123reg and see your domain options.

You said you bought it through 123-Reg, now you say BT gave it to you? If BT gave it to you then you'll probably lose it which is why you should always register your own domains.
If you are the registrant, you bought and paid for the domain yourself and didn't recieve it through any package or company, then it's yours. until the expiration date of course. I'm not sure what you meant by 123-reg saying they owned it, who is they? if they is 123-reg, they somewhat own it. if you don't pay for it and it expires, it becomes property of 123-Reg. If BT gave it to you, depending on how it was set up, they most likely do own it. Sometimes companies will let you "own" a domain as long as you have the service with them. Are you able to log into 123-Reg's site to view your domain? if so, do it quick and turn on the reg lock.
