I didn't mention XHTML5. The OP most probably meant XHTML 1 so the reference to XHTML 1 was implied.

When someone says they're using Javascript you never assume ECMAScript Edition 1, so why is this any different.
XHTML is one of those things that was a nice idea in theory, but it never really caught on.
I never did a 2D game before jumping into 3D. But, you know, if you start working on a 3D game you probably won't get anywhere because of how much content you have to author to make a full 3D game.
