• Why Dreamweaver?

Hey! When I first started web development in 2010 I started off with Dreamweaver. It was ok but it over complicated things (This is in my case keep in mind, might not be yours) for me. So I just wrote my sites in Nano under Linux from then on which suited me fine. I know with Dreamweaver its probably easier to edit the HTML/PHP/CSS code and you also get live previews along with measurements but Im not exactly sure its worth it considering how much money it costs.
dreamweaver is useless [editline]19th December 2012[/editline]
I just wrote my sites in Nano under Linux
hardcore
Turb's going to berate me for this but try Webmatrix, it's a free MS IDE with publish over FTP support / testing in ISS Express. No WYSIWYG but it does have IntelliSense for some stuff.
I use Aptana.
I use Aptana.
Woah Looks nice! Il have to try that out.
DW isn't uselsss if you want an easy to use notepad with some rendering software bolted on, just stay away from everything else.
Sublime Text 2 when GUI, nano when CLI, moving electrons by hand when hardcore.
DW isn't uselsss if you want an easy to use notepad with some rendering software bolted on, just stay away from everything else.
Why use dreamweaver when there are IDEs without clusterfuck
When Im on Mac I like to use Sublime. I love Sublime. Its like a more evolved Emacs.
Why use dreamweaver when there are IDEs without clusterfuck
It's easy to transition to. The question here isn't whether or not Dreamweaver is bad - it isn't; it's average. I wouldn't use DW over Sublime text as a basic editor, but I can see why a lot of people would like to transition to it from other Adobe stuff. No, it's not good, but it's a long way from bad. People need to stop blowing this shit out of proportion.
gvim when GUI, vim when CLI, moving electrons by hand when hardcore.
FTFY.
FTFY.
vim, ugh... I still don't understand why I would use it. Other people may like it, but personnally I'd much prefer click twice rather than doing a keyboard shortcut.

Honestly, I think Dreamweaver is marketed towards beginners, I know I had it. But once you start to understand how to code you find that it's much faster just to do it by hand. And then with an editor like Sublime Text 2, it gets ever faster
If you need it free, nothing really beats nano + Chrome, but if you have money, Sublime Text + Chrome and you're in business.
if you have money, Sublime Text + Chrome and you're in business.
Even if you don't have money, Sublime Text 2 is a good choice. Just pay the developpers once you have the money flowing in (or just any money at all really).

Sublime is awesome. Best editor ever next to Nano.
Dreamweaver's "WYSIWYG" is terrible. The website looks nothing like it does in the browser, just looks all fucked up. Microsoft has their own software which does a much better job, it's not perfect but it's good
DW isn't uselsss if you want an easy to use notepad with some rendering software bolted on, just stay away from everything else.
I am pretty sure you are looking at Dreamweaver from a piracy point of view, it isnt free, so ask yourself would you pay £250 for an easy to use notepad with some rendering software bolted on? Plenty of better, free alternatives out there. Dreamweaver is just the remnants of the Macromedia days, for professional use, its useless.
I used to be dreamweaver back in 2004.
Personally I'd use notepad++ but if you really insist on using wysiwyg editors go with Microsoft Expression Web.

The only thing I really liked about dreamweaver was code completion, I would write CSS about 8 times faster with that. I now either use nano like you or sublime text 2 However I do very much miss the code completion stuff. I would love an editor that does it for different languages such as PHP and JS though. Does anybody have any suggestions for text editors?
