My friend is looking for a rough quote on how much it would cost to hire a developer to create a website.
The website would be a video sharing hub for people to submit videos (not a massive generic over pile of crap like YouTube which has everything)
It would require the following features:-
- Login System
- Administrative Backend with control for all of these features (Banning, temporarily banning, warnings, spying on messages, Featured videos)
- Follower system which allows you to keep up to date with the people who you enjoy watching
- Other videos by this user on sidebar
- Comments system fit with Flagging and several ratings
- LiveStream capabilities
- Channels - Showing videos, people who you have followed, information about you etc.
- Views system of course.
- Video Rating, Flagging etc.
Just looking for a quotation for a friend. Thought here would be a good place.
So YouTube? - Even though you say it's specific content it's probaly gonna end up the same anyways.
He does know that this takes up a lot of resources right? (A lot of bandwidth, a bunch of servers to encode livestream & encode videos)
If you want to put it bluntly yes and I have found a place for hosting.
Be prepared to spend a few grand.

Where? Hosting video is not cheap. You need lots of bandwidth and disk space, and you need to be able to convert videos when users upload them, which you won't be able to do on any shared hosts that I know of.
