Can I use WordPress for this or should I hire a company to build this for me

Hello fellow facepunchers,

I've got a businessconcept which will be internetbased.
This means I need a proper website, which will be heavily inspired by the 9gag-formula.
It's basically an imageblog through which you can scroll, give ratings etc, although it will cater to a very different market than 9gag will.

The whole thing needs to be autoscaling to the browser, and the content has to be user-uploaded.
This means that I am venturing into an area in which I have zero experience. I have no idea how easy or hard it is to make a website that allows users to register and then upload content which can then be managed (deleted etc.) by me and my staff.

Logo design, and URL hosting I have done myself.

Do you guys know any methods I could do this myself with software like Joomla or Wordpress, or is it a good idea to spend around $2500 to have a team of professionals make this, what feels like, a simple website.

WordPress probably isn't too suitable for something like this, unless you want every registered user to be able to upload images as posts, which I suppose would work. Implementing a rating system with this however might not be so simple, or very flexible.

Paying some professionals would probably be the better option, however you better be damn confident in your idea if you're gonna risk 2500 on a site that their is already hundreds of, I mean how many more image/rating aggregators do we need.

I have found out, by asking on other forums as well that WordPress is very capable of this.
There's several plugins that will allow for the usage as requested by me above.

- NextGenPublic Uploader will allow for users to contribute media, which will only be shown after approval from a staff member.
- There's tonnes of member plugins.

Thanks however for giving me advice, and warning me that many of these websites already exist.
I basically have no worries about this since I have found a garuanteed 'market'.

This will not make me rich, but I don't care if it doesn't.

Wordpress is always the quick hack solution. Worry later spirit. Just understand it might work, but might be a burden in the future.
