• Best host for a portfolio?

basically my girlfriend and I are looking for a host that would be suited for an art portfolio. We would need a webhost that allows month to month payments, is affordable and has the option to take backups.
and has the option to take backups.
While most of the hosting providers will probably have backups of data, their terms usually state something along the lines of it isn't our fault when the files are lost. Better be safe than sorry and make your own backups aswell

you got to handle stuff yourself but you could just get a cheap afterburst vps (that's what I do :v:)
Of course, I'd recommend DeRoyalServers. :) We fully support large photo gallery websites, and even offer a few scripts that'll help you get up and running. If DRS isn't an option, I've been hearing some good things about Lithium Hosting. Edit: Just to clarify, we do not currently provide automatic backup services. Backing up a cPanel website is fairly easy to do, though. - Ty H.
Oooh, you are cheap, I'll have to give you a go when I need a production server.
Glad to have caught your interest. :) As you've probably noticed, DeRoyalServers doesn't enforce any kind of resource-based limitations, outside of the physical limitations that our server itself is capable of providing. Essentially, you're able to use as much of our resources as you'd require, just as long as the server itself does not go beyond 80% total usage. (since we offer an 'unlimited' hosting platform, we have this 80% total resource limit in place to ensure that everything's running smoothly) Then again, we do prefer low-resource websites over high-resources websites, for obvious reasons. :p -- As for the OP, DeRoyalServers provides the following instant-click install scripts, which may help you and your girlfriend get off the ground in literally a couple minutes time. Gallery - http://galleryproject.org/ Coppermine Galery - http://coppermine-gallery.net/ TinyWebGallery - http://www.tinywebgallery.com/ Piwigo - http://piwigo.org/ PixelPost - http://www.pixelpost.org/ Zenphoto - http://www.zenphoto.org/ PHP Album - http://www.phpalbum.net/ Shutter - http://shutter.tenfourzero.net/ 4Images - http://www.4homepages.de/ Plogger - http://www.plogger.org/ Regarding the site-backup, you can easily backup and restore your home directory (the directory that contains all of your files, such as your images) by using the Backup Wizard. You can also choose to backup your databases, email accounts, forwarders and filters. - Ty H.
I would recommend drs as well, mostly because i use them, but also because ive used both advertised services shown in here ( DRS and lithium) and i have to say it is the better option. As for backups, you can use the cpanel backup ability to create a backup then download it. I would recommend dowmloading the backups and uploading them elsewhere like dropbox or something as you cant predict a hdd failure. Just my 4 cents though. :)
Ended up going with lithium a while back before the other posts.. :(.
Ended up going with lithium a while back before the other posts.. :(.
We wish you all the best with Lithium. :) And hey, if you ever decide to switch over to us, we'll freely transfer your entire website (and all images) over as well. :) (keep forgetting to use the real emoticons:smile:) - Ty H.
