A steam verified log in button for the home, forums, donations, developers, servers, and blog pages.
Once logged in, the section previously containing the log in button is replaced with the steam profile picture, steam name, and a sign out button.

Database-Forum manages VB forum accounts.
Once logged in via the steam log in button, Database-Forum is then checked to see if they have a forum account with their steam id. If yes, log them into the VB forums with that account.
If no, then a row is added to the VB forum database as a new member with the players steamid, and the player is then logged into the VB forum with that accounts.
I will create an ftp and database account for you to use while helping with this and I assume that should be all anyone needs.
FloodServers.org is the site I would like worked on.
Post or message me to discuss payment.
I love questions like this. Time to watch someone come in with a reasonable price quote while OP gets astounded and assumes you're ripping him off.
What's your budget? (Answer to this question may or may not get your job done)
Depending on how long it takes to get the job done, under $100.
I can assure you that anyone that does this for <$100 will do an astoundingly shitty job.

I have the experience required to do the job. I don't have the time (which I would bill at over $50 per hour).
What I can say is, it's not hard to learn how oauth and VB addons work. do your homework. do it yourself and save yourself having a cheap job done.

Told you.

I'm sure writing to a database and working with the steam API isn't too foreign for some people. And I would hope there are a few people on here that have done this a hundred times over and wouldn't mind helping me out for some easy money.
Enough kidding aside, I can probably do this for you.
But when you say less than $100, what are we talking about? I'm genuinely curious what you think a good price for this is. And I want an exact number.

If you are talking about a long term project I was thinking around $40, short term $60.
Yeah, that's what I thought. Good luck with that.

You don't seem to be grasping (like most "idea people") why you're offering an absurdly small amount of money. You'd be lucky to get someone that'll charge less than 40-50/hour, and I guarantee it'll be more than an hour of work. Honestly you're looking at probably four to five hours of work at the least, not to mention the rest of that process (testing it, showing it to you, making necessary changes, etc etc)
You're offering lower than minimum wage.

I'm trying to help you by pointing out why your offer is fucking stupid. Literally no one will take you seriously with an offer like that.
That's like going to a mechanic and saying "Hey, you've fixed a lot of cars. Here, replace my engine and oil and redo my interior and I want shocks so I can bounce my car up and down while blasting offensive things out of my radio which I also need you to install. You've done this a bunch so it shouldn't take too long, here's $20."

No, your price is insultingly low.
no andrew don't you understand
if we just had the VISION, we could MAKE SOMETHING INCREDIBLE. Don't you get it? This isn't a job, it's the first step in a REVOLUTION. What payment could truly amount to being on the ground level of such GROUNDBREAKING INNOVATION?
or that's usually the way people phrase it when they offer insultingly low amounts of payment

It can't be that hard, I already have the ideas, you just gotta do everything to make it be a thing.
that's what you went to school for, right? i read that exercising your brain regularly is super good for you, here's a chance for you to flex that big muscle. i'm basically paying you to work out, you'd be hard pressed to find such a good offer somewhere else.

I can have FIVE GUYS on the phone right now BEGGING for this position.
Here is some steam API stuff:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1430511
Here is basically what needs done besides setting up the API log in button to my page:
if (logged in through steam api) then
Database:Query("select * from VB_Table where SteamID='"..(php.api.steamid.bull).."'", function(results, status, error)
if !results then
--Add row to database with steamid.
end
end)
end
But obviously written in php, and not this.
Steam log in to site, EASY.
Database check, and entry if not found, EASY.
The only reason I am asking for help, is because someone with experience could do this in the matter of an hour or so. While I would take hours on end of struggling just to get this thing barely working.
Zinayzen, you're a worthless shmuck. Bring your $50 an hour 5 hour long jobs somewhere else, I said I don't need it. That means you can stop posting here now, you're horrible comedy act is cluttering up my thread. Shoo dog.
I'm not saying it's not doable, I'm saying it's going to take longer than an hour and you're paying an insultingly low price. $50/hr is about standard for competent developers with experience, from what I've seen. Shit, I've charged my family $20/hr for stuff (because it's my job and I did work to get here), and you're certainly not family.
Best I can do is $45/hr.

I hope you realize you're the only person in this thread who thinks that he should leave.
If you aren't willing to do it yourself, or pay somebody a fair price to do it for you, you shouldn't complain...
~also~ if you wanted this as a VB addon, you'd have to find somebody with experience making vBulletin addons, which would also probably bring the price up a little bit further, since it IS a skill. Mind you, it wouldn't bring it up too far, but $50/hr is certainly reasonable for something like this.

You set up a low price and expect people to work for it and then insult them when they decline. You are the only "worthless shmuck" here
If you understand the job so well why dont you do it yourself
Because he's an idea guy. Idea guys have just enough of an idea what to do to be dangerous, but not nearly enough to actually do it themselves.
[editline]11th July 2013[/editline]
if he was serious about this i doubt he'd be asking here
then again if he asked anywhere else they'd laugh in his face at that price anyway
[editline]11th July 2013[/editline]
Just so we're clear, idea guy isn't always bad.
What's bad is being told you're approaching this wrong and then completely ignoring or saying rude things about whoever tried to help you.

Should be pretty EASY to do it yourself then.
I do not think he expected this
We all did.
Well yeah, I called it immediately. I almost feel bad for him, except I get the feeling he KNOWS he's being hilariously cheap but he's trying anyway, which I find a bit offensive.
Honestly OP at this point I doubt anyone would help even if you DID pay appropriately (but I might be wrong).
Also you're basically asking us to recreate the steam forums, which is funny to me. Why not skip the hard part and just use standard vB and link your steam profile from there? It's a place to start, at least. And then you can fancy it up.
Just out of curiosity, how many people do you actually expect to register? The site itself seems like the site for either gmod or CS mods, which both tend to attract a small number of people but that's about it. Unless you've figured out a way to make a profit with this (and with that assumed number of members, good luck with ads), you're basically throwing money at this. Start cheap and simple, don't upgrade until you think it's actually worth it.
Are you offering any stock options and if so then what are your projections of the future value of this website?
Isn't this the sort of thing you want?
