• Internet Connectivity Issue

For the past year or so, my internet has been constantly disconnecting. Every 5-10 minutes, I'll disconnect for about 10-30 seconds. This happens no matter what time of day, no matter what games/programs are running (I'm assuming). I've recently moved from my old house and the issue still persists. We've changed routers 3 times now and it is still happening. I can only assume my internet provider is the cause of this, or a virus (although I've run tests and came up negative). Could it be a hardware issue? Toggling issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. [editline]20th July 2015[/editline] Wait, could someone move this to Hardware/Software (if that's the correct forum)? I'm not sure why I posted it here. If not I can repost it there, sorry.
Even if this is the wrong section, its probably a virus/hardware since you have moved and changed routers (and maybe even from internet provider). Have you tried reinstalling your network drivers, also tests can easily show up negative even though you might have a virus, reinstalling the pc might fix your problem.

Also, for the moment, I don't have anything to reinstall the pc with.
Go to the start menu and search for Control Panel. Click it then change your view by options to small icons and find device manager, then left click on Network and you can easily find your device name for your network chip. Then it's literally just a matter of googling it.
Sorry if I'm not understanding very well. Would that be under "Network adapters" Or just network? There's no subgenre under my PC name that lists just network. Also, if it is Network adapters, the only one I haven't seen before is 'realtek pcie gbe family controller' is that likely to be it? I apologize if I'm making it more difficult than needed to be. ^^
realtek pcie gbe family controller would be the one yes and yeah network adapters would be the right one, not on my windows install so remembering device groups isn't easy :v: yeah that would be the one, need to find the specific chip number thou although if you right click on it and hit update driver software on it, you can choose to update it online automatically and windows will fetch the latest driver signed by microsoft and it will install it for you
Thanks man, I'll make sure an save a bag of Doritos for you. :dewritos:
i remember that comcast issued me a older router that caused a lot of grief so check your routers model and see how recent it is, never hurts to upgrade if you can afford it
i remember that comcast issued me a older router that caused a lot of grief so check your routers model and see how recent it is, never hurts to upgrade if you can afford it
Yeah, I'm not really going to be able to upgrade it, but thanks. We did switch a bunch but each one might be just bad routers. I reinstalled the realtek driver, and it worked for about 20 minutes but now it's back to disconnecting as usual. Any other tips?

If your pc is not wired and the problem is isolated to your pc try a wire between it and the router, even only temporary and see if that solves the issue. If that does not solve it but the problem is isolated to your pc then try a full windows reinstall. If the problem is not isolated to your pc there is a network issue. If you have a switch try replacing that, otherwise maybe its the router again.... Good luck

Unfortunately I do not have CD to full reinstall windows. I'm sure there is a simple way by googling it, but I might as well ask, where can I get one? If that doesn't work, then I guess I'll just pray for Google Fiber to come to town.
Try changing the wire first, if you have already done that then : http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-recovery It allows you to recover your software from a product key, if your computer is installed with a illegal version of windows then I can't help you anymore since this forum doesn't allow for piracy websites to be posted. Also this was literally the first link when googling "windows 7 download" so it might be a good idea to sometimes google it yourself first.

Ironically enough I have this problem every day. Though it's a bit more severe, usually going out for about 3 minutes each time but sometimes going as long as an hour. It's every device in the house and our router AND modems have been replaced. I just had a guy come check it out yesterday and he couldn't find the problem, so they are sending some kind of line technician to my house to dig up my wires and re plant them because apparently the problem lies there.
Do you connect via wifi? I've had a very similar issue and what originally helped what finding the exact right drivers for my laptop model (upgrading them wasn't enough). After I reinstalled my OS it fixed the problem so now it works without having to get special drivers for it.
If you're talking to me, then no, I'm plugged right into the router. However, I'll be saving up for Windows 8 so I can reinstall the OS (I'm saving up for a new computer, with windows 8 included in the total price so buying it now might be a double knockout.)

If you're quick to sign up for the Windows Insider program you can (probably) even get the latter for free. That aside, as long as you have a valid activation key you can also get ISOs from Microsoft somewhere if I remember correctly.
Unfortunately my PC started off pre-bought so, I can't use my CD Key to redownload Windows. I'll have to wait.

It can use an online virus scanner to quickly check anything that's not hidden by a rootkit too. If there's malware that's like the one I had, you also need Process Explorer to stop a process without closing it.
