• Ideas for creating fighting game characters

I'm in the process of working hard on a fighting game with a variety of different characters and I want it to be enjoyed by a wide range of audiences. I first thought of it being mainly focused on horror inspired tropes with a horror theme, a sci-fi futuristic setting with sci-fi themed characters or all fantasy style characters with weapons in a middle aged setting. My other option is to combine it all but that might be too much to combine all the different character tropes and themes into one game, or maybe not? What kind of characters would suit best? I would appreciate the feedback and advice, thanks!
I think a horror themed fighting game would be more interesting. other games have dabbled in horror themed stages but I don't know of any that goes all out making the whole game horror themed.
Thank you for the feedback. What are some good ideas for characters that fit the horror theme?
What are your own ideas so far?
Well I have some basics in mind like a vampire, werewolf, mummy, something like Dr Hyde with more chatacters based on slasher and boogymen tropes. [editline]2nd October 2017[/editline] What are some good concepts for slashers and monster tropes ideas? One I have in mind is character that uses a chainsaw, would it make more sense for him being a human or non human?
slashers should be easy. make them low base damage but with a bleed effect for knife wielding characters (or similar, like freddy krueger), axe wielding characters get high damage but slow attacks, someone with a chainsaw might get good range and moderate damage output in exchange for being very slow. monsters will be harder to keep balanced and still have a traditional fighting game. maybe a higher health pool but relatively slow or low output attacks. like frankenstein's monster may have a high health pool with strong attacks but be very slow to attack, or a werewolf may have a high health pool and quick but weak attacks. the dragonball z fighting games might be a good place to look for inspiration since they have a wide variety of fighting styles and status effects.
I don't mean to be a bother but this subforum is for programming, not game ideas.

I'll also check DBZ for references. Any other feedback and ideas you're willing to share I'd welcome and will be credited if you'd like. I have another idea for a machete character with good mid range with moderate damage and somewhat slow but not too slow. I'm still having trouble figuring a concept out for the chainsaw wielder. Would it make more sense as a monster? Robot? Or mere human?
