Hello everybody, need your help to test a game, to see if the basic functions are working. I was making a game where we can explore our PC in a 3D world. We can manipulate files and objects to make our game world. The current setting is that you start from multiple doors that will lead to hard drives in your PC. From there, you can explore your HDD, copy and delete files, ect. You can also interact with the files; play music and videos, activating 3D model (.x format), place the files, scale 3D models to smaller/bigger sizes, destroy files, ect I've only ever tested in in my PC, so I need to make sure it's not fucky in other's. Try to see if - Can the game even run (Need Direct x 9) - Does the doors to your HDD and folders appears correctly? - Can you explore the folders correctly? - Can you copy files properly? - Can you delete Plaza files correctly (i disabled deleting files in HDD for now. You can only delete files in your Plaza/home) Known limitations: - Unable to read unicode characters - Need to give administrators permission if you want to explore OS drives Controls: - WASD for walking - SPACE for jumping. Hold it to charge your jump to jump higher - ESCAPE key or rightMouse double click to display file names, and to select tools (delete tools, copy tools, activator tools, ect) - Use activator tools (with 'play' icon) to activate files (play music, construct 3D models) - Hold left mouse to interact with files/folders until gauge full - To destroy files, while gun icon is active, hold left mouse until gauge 300%, then target and release to fire - Play tool: Access files/doors, play music, videos, transform .x models into the models they should look like, - Copy tool: First access the files using copy tool. A box should appear in front of your character. Carry the box to wherever, and hold left mouse again until copying finishes - Delete tool: The gun icon. Hold left mouse to charge until 300%. Target and release. The files should break into pieces. - Scale tool: Enlarge or shrink your activated 3D models (.x format). Hold left mouse button, while scrolling the scroll button up/down to shrink/enlarge 3D models In the plaza, there are several files that I already placed, with some dummy buildings. Try to test the functions on them, or go into your HDD. Thanks in advance. Download: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8D2TkrsXIwOeXJQRVJaWFRoQ0k [t]http://i.imgur.com/GZRBTBq.png[/t]
I couldn't figure out how to swap tools so I couldn't try deleting or copying. The plaza files don't appear in the plaza for me, after finding the folder on the hard drive the MP3 and MP4 don't play, the M4A does. All MP3 files I have without album art play, those with album art (including yours) do not, FLAC and OGG files appear blue as if they should play but do not. Only AVI videos play for me also (tried MP4, MKV, FLV). [editline]1st July 2016[/editline] Sure have come a long way though.

Try zooming in and see if they enlarges. They shrink and enlarges depending on how far your camera is from your character. Now click on the icons. They tool should be active. Try switching to gun/delete tool, your left hand should turn into a blue box. In the starting area (Plaza), there should be yellow doors, which are doors leading to your hard drives. Behind those doors, I already put some small files (videos, 3d models, music). They didn't appears? When you play the music files, does 'ffdshow video decoder' or 'Haali media splitter' or 'LAV audio decoder' appears at the bottom left of your desktop taskbar? The blue boxes are the files in the plaza. Also what version of Windows are you on?

[t]http://helifreak.duckdns.org/image/2016070108211451.png[/t] Tool icons didn't show up at default zoom level and I never tried zooming, copying works and so does deleting if I copy something to the plaza. Don't have ffdshow, Haali, or LAV audio decoder installed AFAIK, Windows 10 home. Also appears to be finding an A: drive that doesn't exist.
Oh yeah, you can zoom by using the mouse scroll button. Can you try to copy a file from your HDD to the Plaza? Can it be successfully copied? I made it so that when the game is started up, the game will analyze the recorded Plaza files, and see if the files really exist in the plaza folder. I suspect that the game delete the entries, because the recorded path in my PC is not the same is yours. So it seems that you started from a 'clean slate' plaza with nothing on it. I guess you can try bringing new files from your HDD to the Plaza. Be careful when copying/placing the files though. If you are carrying a file and you're are not accessing a door, then that file will be copied into the folder you're standing in. If you're carrying a file and you're accessing a door, the file will not be copied, and you will be taken to another room instead. So you can move the files to another folder. The game will try to access any file/folder that we target. But something only happens if the drive is valid, or the game can do something with the files/folders. Maybe the A: drive is your bluetooth, or virtual drives? In any case, I doubt that it's a normal hard disk drives that you can access. They appears for me too. Windows 10 didnt have ffdshow, Haali, or LAV audio decoder? Can you still play the audio/video files? By default, it can play AVI. But somehow my PC can make the game plays MP4 and other formats too. I suspect it's because of ffdshow, Haali, or LAV audio decoder (I can't remember installing them either, maybe they came by default in Windows 7). If it's not too much, can you try to install those decoders on Windows 10, and see if you can play them? IF that is the cause then I would need to include the installers for those next time...
Yeah copying things to (and deleting from) plaza works, fixing the paths inside plazaName makes them appear also.
Yeah copying things to (and deleting from) plaza works, fixing the paths inside plazaName makes them appear also.
Thanks. Then I should make it so the game renames all the paths for files inside Plaza on each startup. Then we will be able to transfer the game to any computers.
Installing ffdshow didn't change anything, installing Haali makes oggs work but MP4 and MKV open the video in a new window for a frame and then it crashes.

Windows 10 really hates DX9 i see. How about compatibility modes and administrator access? I think the reason why only avi works on Windows 10 is because the engine probably had internal decoder for it, and seeks help from other decoders if the we attempt to play other format. This works in DX9, but on Windows 10 everything is jumbled up. I wonder I can even fix this. Maybe it's time to change to OpenGL based engine

It refuses to run on my XP virtual machine but I'll install a 7 one and test there in a while. I'd say it's more a limitation of dark basic being ancient than an issue with DX9 however.
Videos are a lost cause, besides avi But can you play mp3,wav,MDI after installing ffdshow, Haali, or LAV audio decoder?
Videos are a lost cause, besides avi But can you play mp3,wav,MDI after installing ffdshow, Haali, or LAV audio decoder?
MP3, WAV, WMA worked without anything, Haali made OGG work, LAV made OGG and FLAC work but I don't have any MIDIs to test with. TAK, APE, and ALAC (M4A container) don't work but I feel that may be to do with how you determine what you try to play the file as.

And for video, its avi that works, right? There might be hope for us just yet. I shouldn't expect an old engine to play all type of media. I guess I'm too optimistic. Maybe I didn't have to scrap this project yet after all. Another thing though. Try replacing the existing files with these https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8D2TkrsXIwOSWtEbW4xaS1KT3M And see if you can find the 'sun.x' , 'tower.x', 'bank.x' in the Plaza. Those are 3D models files. Try activate them with play tool. Make a copy of them first, just in case. See if they transform into a 3D model?

Sweet. That's a really good news. I really can' afford to learn a new programming language nowdays. You might have noticed that the way the character move has changed since the last time we tested. Do you like the current one, or the previous smooth sinusoidal movement?

Old one felt unprecise because of how long it took to stop / start.
I should really get your guys opinion more often. I had this tendency that, my tastes are pretty much the opposite to that of most people's. For example, I like the old way of walking more. It feels more organic. Also I prefer the previous version graphics style that had no frills, instead of this one. But that would led to no other people willing to play/buy.
