Not gonna lie, some of those are very awesome games.
I remember when you would get dumbs if you would post something made in game maker in the WAYWO thread.
I can honestly say, if it wasn't for GameMaker, "especially versions 6 through 8" I probably never would have gotten into game creation.
If anyone wants a key for professional then pm me bc i still have mine from the humble bundle where I only wanted the android module, promise me you'll use it though My friends who are much better at development have given me shit for using gamemaker but I've enjoyed working with it and didn't feel overwhelmed as I did with Unity
My friends who are much better at development have given me shit for using gamemaker but I've enjoyed working with it and didn't feel overwhelmed as I did with Unity
I've gotten shit for prefering GameMaker over Unity, but when I use Unity I feel so overwhelmed. Not to mention I prefer doing 2D, and Unity is very awkward (at least for me) to use for 2D. That said, with all the sales they're doing for GameMaker, I've heard a lot of rumors of GM2 coming out soon and that they're trying to sell as much of the first they can. I wish I got the Android export for $12 rather the regular price.
I can very much recommend /r/gamemaker if you're looking for a good GameMaker community. I'm biased though, as I moderate it. We also got the gm(48) coming up soon, a 48 hour game jam for GameMaker.

I use it all the time and what troubles me the most is horizontal collisions. I've basically perfected vertical collision but I can't seem to get down hitting walls in a sidescroller. Also the approach(x,y,z) script is the best thing ever.
$12
Oh my god, why did i miss it ;(
Oh my god, why did i miss it ;(
I have a spare key, and you can have it. PM me, and I'll send it to you.

Over the summer I built a rather large archive of my old Game Maker projects. One day I'll actually have time to compile then release everything.... One day.

Thats awesome! I wish I still had all my old Game Maker games.
can i have them? :D
There's a lot of personal history in those files. I don't want to actually release them until they're cleaned up and at least annotated a little.

Man, I remember when I made a multiplayer gangster-themed thing in Gamemaker using Gang Garrison 2 as a base. It was okay if anything. Hell, I had people recognize me here, asking for the next release. Also was a good introduction to pixel art. In summary, good times.

I've been screwing around with Game Maker for a couple of years now, it's a lot of fun. My buddy and I made a ludum dare game a few months ago in GM. It's a bit unbalanced because we ran out of time, but I was quite pleased with the result. I've also got a ton of unfinished projects scattered around.
I love gamemaker, it's no good for making games & release it but its still fun sometimes
Even if it's not the best for making games that doesn't mean there's no decent games for it. If you go looking for them you'll find a surprising amount of GM games that are actually pretty good. One of the few games I'm even looking forward to releasing this year is a Game Maker game and the two games in the series before it were both quite good too.

Whats everyone's opinions on using default speed variables? I have been using my own recently and its lovely.
Whats everyone's opinions on using default speed variables? I have been using my own recently and its lovely.
I always make my own movement system from scratch, it's far better as it's predictable and can be more versatile.
Game maker is the best. Back in school we had a project which involved making a game for class and I went all out, my game was fantastic in my eyes it was a side scrolling death match game where you played as a stick figure fighting other stick figures. It had rudimentary AI that could pick up weapons and multiple levels to choose from. The only thing I didn't factor in was the fact that my PC at home at the time was really really slow and the games was only operating at about a third of the speed it would run on a decent PC. So when I showed the game to the class on the school computers it was going so fast it was impossible to survive the AI's onslaught. Good Times.
