Ok well i compiled a model but when i went to see the files there was no v_smg_tmp.xbox.vtx and people have been saying that is is in fact important. Anyway do i need that file or is it not important or is there a way to do it with guistudio?
It's just Xbox optimised vertex data. Unless you're planning to hack your mod onto a 360 to play, don't worry.

how would i go about doing it anyways?
You don't need the .xbox file. Just delete it. It takes up useless space, and isn't used for anything.
It isn't needed, and I don't know of any way to make it anyways.

But still does anyone know what it is for or how to compile it?
It's not for anything, and you should be compiling on orangebox studiomdl by now anyway. It's faster.
It's for the XBox port of HL2. Not even the 360 one. As everyone has said, it's completely useless.
Some old versions of studiomdl compile it. I don't recommend trying to use them, because old models can cause problems with Hammer.
If you use GUIStudioMDL, the tickbox is there to output the xbox data, but you seriously don't need it. Just listen to everyone else and stop bothering with it.
