So I had a single basic 3d max class in college 2 years ago. So I dont really know much of anything... sooo, here's the deal. I want to learn how to make head hacks so I can rig this:

All I need to be able to do is delete the knife thing off the hand and replace the head... My little experience with 3d maxs lets me know this is easier said than done.
So what I want to know is what program should I use? Is blender terrible or a good choice? (Should I just get 3d max again... i just want to be able to do these simple hacks) Then, can I get a tutorial walking me through welding vertices and importing bones and rigging them? I have no idea where to start and what to do...
Any help?
I recommend 3ds Max. Watch his videos or read his tuts for some more info. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=542906
