After seeing the thread with the hunter skinned strider, and noticing several people said there should be a Combine Elite version of this, I decided to take this upon myself and ultimately give it a shot! So far it looks alright, I have the elite's torso and mask done. When I do get done with the texture I may need some help doing the hunter's iridescent phong and possibly the normal map. Criticism please, you know the drill.

I dont really like it i would've liked an elite skinned hunter
Looks far too plain in my opinion. The soldier's armor plate just doesn't look good with a texture like that.
Hunters have a nice hexagon pattern on them and I would darken the mouth piece.
Let's see. Serman, it does look plain because that's the elite without the hunter's iridecsant phong, you know, how it looks shiny like a beetle. When I add that (If I can) it'll look so much better. Apb1192, I don't think the hunter actually has a hexagon pattern. I don't recall ever seeing it. Oh. And I've done a little more, I know it isn't much but I started late at night and was tired like crazy so.. In gmod I easily notice a hexagon pattern. Disable ai or spawn a ragdoll so you can get close without getting killed. Well, when I get it all done I can put on a hexagon pattern. Just for you!
It's getting close to completion. I just need to do a normal map and work the phong. [IMG]http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/5524/elitehunterscreenie.png[/IMG] I'm just not sure what colour to do the armor plates on his arms, knees and... former genital area.
A rather dark shade of blue is what I'd recommend.
Make the armour plates a slightly darker, slightly less reflective version of the rest of the model.
I've coloured the armor plates dark grey like myst suggested, and i'll continue my work tomorrow. I'm getting sick of staring at photoshop.
The Hunter without phong looks lame so does this guy if he needs that hunter armor. But you're aware of that so good luck! :3
Thank you Mozzie! I would like to request some help from somebody in regards to the phong, I've been tying to replicate the Hunter's phong. but to no avail. The Elite's normal goes with his texture, and since this is and Elite with a hunter texture it might look better with a hunter-like normal. But anyway, thanks for telling me how those kind of maps are done. I wanted to see if I could take an easy way out to do the normal map, though now it seems I can't, i'll use my incredible photoshop skills to put the hunters normal on the elite.

There's a Photoshop plugin you can use to make normal maps. The site says it's meant for grayscale height maps, but it's worked pretty well for all the the textures I've used it on so far. [url]http://developer.nvidia.com/object/photoshop_dds_plugins.html[/url]

Also Dr Kevorkian, you can try taking the VMT parameters from the Hunter and putting them into the Elite's VMT where needed I suppose.
Well I have tried putting all the hunter's phong settings into the elite's VMT, and it just looks silly, It gives him a cubemap reflection everywhere on his body, which looks dumb, and the phong does not look iridescant. But at the right angle I think it looks like someone spilled petrol in some water! As for the cubemap, I've tried making an $envmapmask but that didn't alter a thing. Can anyone help?.

Can anyone help?.[/QUOTE] You called? You need to edit the alpha to where you want the phong. Like on the pic from the guy above me!
I've seperated the textures on the model. 1 texture for the pads and helmet. 1 texture for the rest. That way I achieved the hunters reflection the way VALVE did it.
