Wasn't War of the Worlds done with huge-ass tripods with heat rays? I'm pretty sure that's how the book went.
It was, it was the first war of the worlds movie ever made by the flying saucer.
No, NO NO,
War of the worlds started off in 1898 in england as a book by HG wells and they were TRIPODS, get your facts straight please or i'll set the fighting machine on you
Actually, you're both right. The Saucer was from the original 1950's film adaptation, which was a cheesy b-movie like many others. The Tripod is the one from the book and most subsequent adaptations. I was a sci-fi nerd, so I know.
That's correct - and I heard the only reason the original US film made them 'saucers' was that in those days the only possible way to make them tripods would have been to use stop-motion, which would have been budget-busting and also make them look totally unrealistic. The Director got around the problem by the saucers having 'legs' of a sort of anti-gravity beam which you can see in the movie the first time the martian machines are seen... even that didn't last long into the film as that was way hard to do as well.
I've yet to see a film adaptation of this story I've actually liked yet... they have all been pretty poor so far.
