Yes, it's that Elf girl, Selene, again.

I'm taking a break off my male 3D model to work on this one for my Character Modeling class. I've attempted to re-make this character before but now re-built her body from scratch and I'm really close to finishing the modeling bit this time around. Only things I really don't like so far are her face, which dosen't suit my tastes yet, and the feet, which look horrible at the moment. (Which is why they're cut off in these preview images) Also, she needs hair. After this I'll save the basic body as a template for future female models and I'll add the clothing on to this one.
NOTE: The sharp line running down her center is there because she's actually separated into two halves right now for easier modeling. It will be mended after I'm done with the body modeling.

Wow, kind of neat. You're going to have a bit of trouble modeling the face, though.
Nice job so far.
When I read Elf Girl I already knew it was you.
Nice work so far, that elf chick got some nice atributes :q:
Looks intresting so far, are you going to take it into zbrush or something and sculpt it? Or is it going to be 100% done in whatever program that is? (3DSmax/Maya?), either way the output will be interesting. You still creep me out though. :3:

I'm already having tons of trouble with her face. :(

Thanks.

Of course she's got nice attributes. It wouldn't be a Ryu-Gi girl character without her having a beautiful, sensuous, Idealistic figure.

It'll all be Maya and Photoshop.
Sounds cool, will you be doing any wip renders as you go along?
Sounds cool, will you be doing any wip renders as you go along?
I think I'll finish the body and do a basic rig first before I do any renders.
I'll definetley throw in some nude shots of her, lol.
EDIT: Something involving her being frightened and crying. And chains. Lots and lots of chains. :D
EDIT: Even better idea: getting attacked by slimy, filthy undead monsters while she's naked, frightened, and in chains. :D :D :D
Sounds like the average japanese porn right there.
Hmmm, not bad so far. Hopefully this'll be one of them models they'll be yappin' on about for months...
Doesn't look like much right now, but if its anything like the sketch when its done, you'll have a lot of people downloading this.
nice man can i see a wireframe shot?

Sure I'll take one soon.
EDIT: Here you go.

very nice typology, neat :) you could clean up a couple of areas, just to keep it to 4-sided.

It's okay to have a few tris here and there, I just need to keep them aways from joints, etc.
Well, renders don't really take all too long, depends on your settings of course.
Just had the model so far critiqued by some teachers at my school.
The model still needs a lot more work. There's too many unnecessary edge loops (specifically on her face, shoulders, and breasts,) and not enough in certain places. (needs certain edge loops to create specific lines on the face crucial for animation) Some of the topology is still quite messy
On top of that I still need to give her better feet and make her face actually look the way I want it to...
On the plus side, they did say I've made a lot of improvements in my modeling ability since my previous version of her.
Also, I'll provide a render a little later on, preferably when she's got textures.
Well atleast her breasts aren't watermelons like the concept image, since it would make no practical sense to go with an outfit like that with knockers as big as(or atleast from my visual scale) those. If you want to keep the bikini style with a better approach, consider keeping the breasts at the current model size, or to possibly make it more sport's bra-styled.
This is more criticizing the design more than the model itself.
[editline]03:33AM[/editline]
And yes, I have gone through you're stories from following posts, maybe make her current outfit more a (highly in)formal attire? Since you do seem to try to justify it.
It looks like her boobs are pressed up against glass. Also, for your arm/finger topology, you might want to look at having just two main loops, with one loop being split into two halfway around, if that makes any sense at all. It'll produce much cleaner deformation.
Of course she's got nice attributes. It wouldn't be a Ryu-Gi girl character without her having a beautiful, sensuous, Idealistic figure.
If by idealistic and sensuous you mean a hodgepodge combination of all your favorite anime characters in bondage with a couple of watermelons stapled to it's chest, yes.

Will you be including the pictures of you crying to yourself as you furiously masturbate to them as well?

The hell kind of school do you go to, St. Vladmir's Dominatrix School for Women? It's obvious you aren't studying any kind of anatomy since realistic figures have a restraining order against you, so what teacher do you have critiquing your shit?

Don't even bother arguing on terms of continuity. Ryu-gi has constructed a mythos for his characters simply so he has something to change the subejct to when you point out their mind shatteringly gigantic breasts and S&M attire.
I'm pretty sure he'll pull something like "the formal attire of the noble class is dominatrix gear because all of the male nobles are domineering and perverted just like me
and the breasts are the result of selective breeding"
LOL
Let me explain, I got to an Art school where I'm Studying Game Design, but my main goal is to work in character design. I decided to start re-working on this character model as a class project for my character modeling class.
And while my teachers do think that the overall body is good most of the other people around me, including the teachers, have a thing or two to say about my character's chest. XD Sorry, but I just like the sort of look the DOA characters have for their bodies and so I decided to emulate that part.
And I admit that I've always done my girl characters' bodies like that just because I like it when it looks like that.
Although, in Selene's case, she is supposed to be highly desirable, so it makes more sense for her to be a little busty...
EDIT: Also worth mentioning: not all of my girl characters are scantily clad...

Oh yes, short shorts and a corset. About as tame as suicide girls.
You want to get into character design, but you don't know how to draw an anatomically correct female. In order words, YOU IS FUCKED, BOY.
He's a tip for the road, learn the basics of art before learning game design. Because one is kind of a prerequisite for the other.
And why did you have to tell the viewer what the sword is reminiscent of? Shouldn't that be plainly obvious?
Oh wait it isn't because you didn't do a final drawing. Silly me.
[editline]10:13AM[/editline]
Oh yes, and you emulate DOA as a standard of good proportion. I mean holy fuck, if you like naked chicks so much take a fucking life drawing class so you can at least learn how to fucking draw the human body.
[editline]10:20AM[/editline]
And you can't work as a character designer if all you do is draw fucking anime. No one will hire you because this is the motherfucking US, not Korea. And your interest in art is so fucking superficial it makes my skin crawl, instead of learning about the field you just watch dubbed episodes of fucking "Witch blade".
Tell me, do you know who Moebius is? Do you know who Frank Frazetta is(sad, as you'd probably like his stuff)? Hell, do you know who Zdzislaw Beksinski is? The truth is that you'll never become a good artist until you take interest in the field beyond the materializations of your perverted sex fantasies.
And by the way, this is Frank Frazetta.

Somewhat like you, he draws a lot of warriors and scantily clad women. Unlike you, he knows how to draw warriors and scantily clad women.
You're out of line Mcguff - what you have disguised as a critique isn't doing him any favors. You flirt with actually having something useful to say to him and then undermine it pretty consistently with an attitude that tells me things aren't going so well for you.
Ryu, given your progress now is a real good time to pick up some Loomis or some Burne Hogarth to completely nail down your figures. You should also give yourself the luxury of front and side t pose sketches for your women.
(lots of angry stuff)
You need to look closer at my pirate girl. She's not wearing Short Shorts, they're black leather pants and thigh-high boots.
I have already taken several life-drawing courses, and they have had a definte impact on my work. My proportions were very different back then.
Yes, I do throw in a little bit of DOA proportions (And body physics) when it comes to the chest. What can I say, I find it to be a beautiful, idealistic take on the female figure.
I know who Moebious is, he did the artwork for "Heavy metal". His artwork is all over the Metreon, a building owned by Sony here in San Francisco, and my teacher has actually worked with him. I have heard of Frank Frezzeta, but wasn't actually too familiar with his work, but thank you for pointing it out, I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for his stuff.
In terms of more western art styles, I'm mostly familiar with the work of Michael Turner. (RIP, the poor guy. 37 is far too young an age to go like that...) His breathtaking style on the female anatomy had a big impact on the way I draw the feminine form. Some examples:

I should also note that my style isn't meant to be anime, but a sort of cross-fusion between American comic-book exaggerations and asian styles.

I did actually use Orthographic poses while modeling the body, I simply hid them during the preview shots. The orthos I used were actually of Lara Croft. :D Selene here actually ended up being bustier then her. :3
Long as it has the cool gauntlet thing from the first post, I'd be happy.
Would it be possible to even make that gauntlet a separate model?

Eh, I could throw it into a pack I guess.
Heh, I could do a nude shot with her armor and stuff lying on the floor as if she's just disrobed or something. That would be nice.
i put on my robe and wizards hat
I wish I knew the joke behind that.

Black leather pants and thigh high boots, yes, much better than short shorts.
Then humor me. Draw one anatomically correct female figure, and I will take back everything I've ever said about anything you've ever drawn.
The point is that you don't seem to draw anything but that. If you could draw anything you wished and knew how to design a character, maybe I wouldn't be so irate. But you don't. You just draw women in sexy clothing.
Good. How about someone more recent? Greg Broadmore perhaps? Or maybe someone slightly down your line, like Osamu Tesuka? There are hundreds of artists in the world who do stunning work on a variety of subjects in a variety of subtly different ways. I suggest you look for those people, as each one's influence can improve your work. That's also why I suggest you watch some good directors, like Tchaikovsky or Akira Kurosawa.
I'm seeing a lot of problem in that stuff. The one that jumps out at me is that the woman in the third picture doesn't have shoulder blades, and there seem to be a lot of lines that I don't recognize from the human body, though i suppose you could say that's just the angle.
His pictures also seem to lack line weights or shadows, and he doesn't seem to use more than two values. Now, I'm not saying that this bothers me too much, because it is comic book art and is therefor streamlined for a fast development schedule, and he does not have that missing shoulder blade problem is other things that he's done, so I won't hold it against him, but even then that's not the point. I just wouldn't look at this stuff as a paragon to be reached, because it's missing a lot of stuff. If you don't, then all of this is moot.
But something to keep in mind is that character design for video games is often invariably more demanding than comic book art.
