So i've edited the bones for this model but I don't know where to go from here. Do I have to use weight painting? How do I use it?

I'm planning to use it as a ragdoll, not a playermodel.
Don't use blender, use 3dsmax

Blender is great, and I perfer it over 3ds any day.
Moving on.
Yes, you will be required to weight paint your model. To do so, select the skeleton and then the model, then press CTRL + P and click Automatic Weights. This will do a basic rig for your model, however I suggest you edit it before exporting as it might not give you the settings you want. Oh, thanks!
I'm planning on making a video for rigging playermodels for source, but I haven't had the time. When I do though, I shall.
