My apologies if this is answered somewhere else, but I've been searching for hours and still haven't found anything past 2008. :P
I'm looking for a way to import and export models to maya (Specifically, mdl files). I have so far only learned in my endless search that you must first decompile the mdl into smd files, and that the textures have to be separate too. (Maybe. That wasn't very clear either.) I found a tool to decompile the mdl files, but as for importing those into maya I found only the horrendously outdated and badly documented MESA plugin, which I was unable to get working. (It was the wrong version anyway - I'm using Maya 2015)
It seems weird to me that this was so hard to get information about - surely this is a common process for Gmod content creators? Again, sorry if I have dumbly missed a post about this, I really did try to find one.
A solid, easy-to-follow walkthrough of the whole process would be a godsend, but really at this point any information at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to all who reply.
Most Gmod creators use Blender or 3dsMax, and old versions of which too.
As a matter of fact I don't think there even are any Maya plugins past 2011. Unless they added ones for 2013? I don't remember.
Maya is used by Valve and has all sorts of plugins made by them. Install Source SDK Base 2013 and check the folder for sdktools/maya. They actually go right up to 2013 and I think the Dota tools had up to 2014.
