I'm using the APB hair models in SFM

For some reason when in SFM the model is transparent and if the camera zooms in or gets to close the model disappears.
I've managed to fix the transparency issue but i don't know how to stop it from disappearing.
Is this a texture issue? It seems like it.
I don't know how a model could disappear when a camera gets too close.
