Unable to attach two splines, weld end vertices together.

I created a spline and mirrored it to create what I wanted as a symmetrical loop. I am unable to connect the two together though, the endpoint vertices will not weld. In the picture I moved the endpoint vertices out of the way a little, so it can be seen that they didn't weld. Whats stopping them from being able to be welded together? I want them together so I can get the rope object's path deform to work correctly, at the moment its just following only one of the splines.

Have you tried cloning the actual thing and trying again ? Might be a minor situational bug.
Also, a few things you can try:
-check if there's no duplicated vertex at the end point.
-raise the welding threshold
-try using the connect tool

tried them all, no luck. I made another completely new spline and mirrored and it worked, shame why I can't figure out why it doesn't want to work on this one.
You could also create a dummy spline and attach this one to it and see if it works, but anyway, it's a really weird bug. The good thing is that it's not a complex shape, so no problem recreating it.
