I feel like I'm gonna get attacked on asking a question like this. But is it possible to model in Maya 2011 for GMod, cause I know that Valve stopped making their plugin after Maya 9 and no other program really works. So is it just impossible, and I should go to something else?
you tried google yes? it seems the older exporter still works for maya 11, although I use 3ds max so you should at least try finding the older plug-in and try it first
no i couldn't get the importer/exporter to work for maya at all.
3ds max and blender's work great; you can get 3ds max for free here (if you're a student):

I recommend using 3ds max for modeling. Maya is more geared towards animation and rendering. Also Blender can be extremely confusing to someone new to the program. Good luck guy.
figured these programs out in less than a week. the only problem is the cruddy sdk support valve's provided. great, rigged model ready to go. oops, fail tool decides not to work.
Ok, I guess I have no choice, but to go to 3DS. Also, I attempted Blender and damn it was confusing.
EDIT: Does Max 2010 Plugins work for Max 2011?
My friend has an extra license for Max 2011.
