• TF2 Transparent hats?

I want to skin some hats in TF2 to be transparent. Can someone please tell me how to do this? Do i merely need to edit the vmt? or do i need to create a new vtf with an added alpha channel ? or both? Thanks for any help :) . Ok, my apologies for not making my intent more clear. Yes i do want invisible but no not in gmod. I want to make them invisible in TF2 for some screenshot ideas i wanna do. My reason for coming here to ask is simply put "Yall in here know your shit", so i wanted to get advice from experts. I know this should be fairly simple. My mind was thinkin along the same ways as making a spray with transparent parts on it, but do not know if this is the correct way to go about it, or perhaps a few different steps need to be taken. Thanks so far for everyone giving answers but i think i need something different than what has been suggested. I am thinking that basically i need to make an invisible texture vtf. Just not sure if that is what i need to be doing or if i am taking the proper steps if that is infact what i do need to be doing. I basically wanna make the characters appear hatless without actually using a "hatless hat".
Transparent? Ain't that the same as invisible? In that case, you could just remove the hats. In TF2 you could use the hatless "hats", but as this is posted in GMod discussion I presume you want to remove their hats in GMod- this can be done by typing "Ent_fire !picker setbodygroup" followed by which bodygroup you want on the model in console.
You can make them linearly transparent with the alpha slider on the colour tool in gmod. If you want anything more complex, you'll have to edit both the vmt and vtf to add and activate an alpha channel.

Anyone? Surely someone on this site knows how to do this and can help me out.
Add a completely black alpha channel to the vtf and put
"alphatest" 1
in the vmt.
Transparent means light passes through it but not all of it so it's still visible
What the shite? That's translucent not transparent. Transparent means all light passes through so its invisible.
What the shite? That's translucent not transparent. We probably weren't being specific enough when describing it though
