Because that show owned, and having a bubo would be awesome. Bonus points if it looks like clay ingame rather than all shiny and smooth and shit. Nobody? Seriously? Fuck you guys are uncultured :arghfist::smith:
What's a Bubo? Never heard of one. Then again, I just checked Wikipedia and it says that that show was mostly aired in Australia and the UK. (HINT HINT, I'M IN THE U.S)
Urgh I'd totally be up for this if I could model. Reminds me of squids to be honest, but still looks great. http://img.fdb.cz/obrazky/df8cb1d1f34805c82e385150805.jpg
Surely someone could find the time to do this?
BUT WHY? They have horrible proportions! j/k

Holy shit people, come on :smith:
Anime models get more attention than this? Wow, fuck this place. Come on, someone. Surely there is at least one person out there who gives no fuck about shitty samey anime requests and could do this.
I'd help if i could, trap door was fucking awesome and needs more recognition.
Ok. Given that this is connected to my childhood I will give this a go. I generally wouldn't because character modelling isn't my strong point just yet. However it seems simple enough. So here is my current progress after about an hour maybe. It's still very WIP! Thoughts? Comments?
Feet could use some rounding out; post a wireframe up so we get a better idea of where you can afford to add more polies and where you can afford to lose some. Great to see someone take this up! [editline]14th January 2011[/editline] To go into a little more detail, Shorten the splits in his feet a bit and plump them up, connect them to his body too. Take a lot of polies out of the spout (it just needs to look round, so the most you'd need is maybe 14-18 sides) and use what you've freed up there to round out his feet and lip. Hands look good but his arms are a bit long. Make the body a bit slimmer, then once you add his eyes and eyebrow he should look great... then we just need to find a skinner.
Thanks for the crits. I'll fix him up and hopefully get him finished tomorrow. As for skinning, I've made ragdolls in the past before but never in 3ds Max. I'll see if i can wrestle with source to get him ragdoll'd. EDIT Oh and by the way. With reguards to the poly budget. I've currently got the whole model on a subdivision/turbosmooth modifier while I model the hands and feet. I intend to separate the hands and feet from the body so that way the body isn't given a pointless amount of polys (1000+).
I wonder how the skinner is gonna make it look like clay... Maybe just a normal map on a solid color is enough.
UPDATE! I think the model is mostly finished. Feet still aren't attached at the moment, I'm not quite sure how to advance with those just yet. Also max has ugly smooth shading. I'll chuck it into source as a prop as a test of how it turns out. I'll post screenies when I get it in. Edit Oh and I'll fix the proportion issues too. It's tricky on a clay model, proportion changes from scene to scene. Looks great, although you could stand to add more polies than that. Since he's not very big and is going to be used for posing, you could probably get up to about 5-10,000 quite safely to round out his silhouette. Somewhere about halfway between the original body and the new one would be ideal (also, more polies would allow you to blend his mouth and eyebrows with his body more smoothly). Areas like the mouth and feet in particular could use more, while the body doesn't need quite as many as the first pic. It's hard to explain exactly what I mean, but you can probably work it out. Keep it up!
Maybe you'll want to know why most people only do "anime" requests: THEY'RE MOSTLY GAME PORTS, NOT THE ENTIRE MODELING JOB. It's port, rig and it's done. Besides, I've NEVER seen a single Anime request in a looooong time. That strangely proportioned model is hard to replicate.
