• File formats differences?

Hi I'm new to models and stuff, I'm using 3ds max and I'm trying to make a weapon model I downloaded look better with 3ds max but I'm confused on which format I should use these were the formats they were in .fbx .max .3ds Which 1 should I use if I have the option out of the 3 are there any differences thanks.
You should probably go with .fbx. My reasoning for that is because FBX holds more information than a .3ds file, and I'm assuming that the .max file type is made for 3DS Max, while the .fbx format is supported by more applications. Just want to make this clear, I found out this information by research, not by experience. So things might have been changed, but I'm pretty sure this information is still correct.
FBX = Holds rig, model and texture information and is used widely because of how much data it carries over from one 3D program to another or for game formats. MAX = Only a 3DS MAX exclusive file. Its used for saving and opening scenes in 3DS MAX. 3DS = Another common file format. Used for transferring 3D model data. Cannot hold rig and texture information. Very similar to OBJ.
