Best 3D Modelling and Rigging program for Source and Bethesda

I'm new to modelling and i'd like to start off in a good, feature-full 3D modelling program, although i'd also need the program to have full support for Source games (Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, etc.) and Bethesda games as well (Skyrim, Fallout 3/New Vegas, Oblivion, etc.)
Is there any good modelling programs to start off on that also has support for Source and Bethesda games? I'd also like it to have a good rigging feature, so i can make Team Fortress 2 hats with ease (which in Maya 2012 was god-like impossible).
Blender
I recommend Blender. There are plugins like .nif and source import/export which may help you import Skyrim/Source files without a problem
Many folks like 3DsMax, which is used by a lot of modelling companies. I use Blender myself.
Free and constantly being updated. YMMV.
I personally use 3DSMax, more recent versions have an excellent collection of tools relating to Source and Gamebyro.
I'd say it's mainly personal preference.
Blender
Max
Maya
Modo
Honestly I utterly detest blender, but that's mostly due to how it works (or rather doesn't), but a lot of skills between all the programs are transferable. Learn one, manage all of them,
