I select fucking everything, go to render>Material>lambert then to texture>image>new from file> "My image" then I close the little window, set render method to textured decal and nothing fucking happens. Still fucking grey
Because you have to apply/create an UV-Map which contains the data where the texture should be placed on the polygons ;)
If you already have a Material assigned, then click on [B]"Property >> Texture Projection"[/B]
and choose for example [B]"Unique UVs"[/B]
If you haven't assigned a Texture yet, then go to the Render Menu and clock on "Texture >> Image"
choose your image you want to use as the texture and in the bottom part of the menu click on "New"
and choose one of the UV settings.

You can then edit the UV map with the UV Editor ( ALT + 7 )
With a bit of skill and time you'll learn how to UV-Map correctly ;)

unfotunatly whenever i try make a new UV instead being able to save it it just comes as an error at the bottom of screen. any way to fix that?
Press "8" to open the "Explorer",
open the tree of your mesh and delete the material currently assigned by clicking on it in the tree-view and hit "del".
The Default Material is named "Scene_Material (Scene_Root)"
After that, click on "Polygon Mesh" in the tree-view of your mesh and open up the folder named "Clusters".
Delete everything named like this: "Texture_Coordinates".
Now your model shouldn't have any UV-Map or material assigned and you can start creating new ones.

didn't help. all that did was remove my texture, and now i can't re-apply it back on and there is no point in saving a tga file that has nothing in it.
the model is made out of 1 obj file and a png file for the texture. this is starting to make moddeling sound like even more of an impossibility.
auto wasn't in there it was explict.
